Dear India-Mikers....

Could someone suggest any ways to get compensation from Jet Airways, where my baggage was declared lost after landing in Mumbai from Zurich. After six months I am still waiting for my compensation....but they would pay only on weight basis. I bought a lot of clothes/shoes goodies etc. for my relatives, which would not compensate if they pay according to weight....I honestly would lose around $450. Naturally I did not think of keeping the receipts...just because I am flying Jet Airways .

Their quality of response and the customer service would put any airlines in Kongo to shame....just terribly furstrating.

Could there be some ways to get my compensation fulfilled, sensibly ...leave alone the kind of anxity and their care less attitude. I have naturally lost the joys and goodies that I promised to my niece...sisters et all. It is just not fair.. that I must pay because of Jet airways callous attitude to perfom their duties responsibly.

Thank you for your advice in advance...

regards

You have no recipts/tickets or baggage claim stubs? Have you attempted to file a claim to date?

Please clarify, are you saying that Jet has offered you compensation, but you are not happy with the amount, or have they not offered anything.

As far as I am aware most airlines only give compensation on a weight basis. But I am sure our expert on air travel nycank, will be able to provide better info.

Thank you for your response...guys !

PeakXV, yes I did the complain at Mumbai airport...sure. Receipt meaning...receipts of the things that I bought, which were in the baggage. They say without receipts of those things..they can't pay. Had I had those cashmemo...JA must have to pay much more. Hence, I am asking for a minimum of compensation, but all that do not seems to materialise. Could there be a legal option to bring JA to book? Not to talk about their pathetic customer relations.

JOHNLORD....Jet Airways offers me compensation on the basis of weight...which would not compensate half the price of the goods in the lost bag...that is the reason I am kind of helpless. They lost my bag...but still I must pay, indirectly....hope you understand.

With sympathy, I am afraid that you probably are helpless. It doesn't sound as if they are very willing to make an ex gratia payment to you, and the basic liability is the per-weight thing, that I think dates back to some aged international agreement. That's the legal option.

You'd need to check all the small print on their website, your ticket, etc.

If they are offering to pay of you produce receipts, that's pretty good --- but if you don't have receipts, then I doubt they'll take your word for it.

As per their T&Cs, Jet's liability is

Quote:

Missing/lost/damaged baggage: While we take utmost care that your baggage arrives in proper condition, there may be occasions when baggage may be damaged or misplaced. In such a situation the passenger should immediately report the damage / missing baggage to our ground staff on arrival, before leaving the terminal building.
Further a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) has to be filed, which will be done by the staff. The case then will be settled as per company policy. Please note that once the passenger leaves the terminal building without registering a complaint of mishandled bag, Jet Airways will not be in a position to settle the claim.
Our liability for loss to baggage is limited to INR 450 per kg on domestic flights within India and USD 20 per kg lost on international flights, unless a higher value is declared in advance and additional charges are paid. Excess valuation may not be declared on certain types of articles. We assume no liability for fragile/perishable articles or already damaged items.
This is from their website in http://www.jetairways.com/EN/CH/Policies.aspx

AS they say in Brooklyn wouldacouldashoulda

Check if the Credit Card Company you bought the ticket with have additional baggage coverage.

Thanks all of you for taking time to advice/ suggest my personal cause. The issue with the lost baggage seems to me a lost war anyway. Jet Airways seems to have, any airlines for that matter, a win win situation everytime...almost. Lesson learnt is not lesson proved yet...would be careful next time ..everytime.

But would for every reason avoid Jet Airways...everytime. I could at least say..I know their guest relation or customer service...it's hell compare to anything I have ever experienced. India's only international airlines..indeed. Hope someone else represent us abroad...instead.

Cheers Mates....

Zuliono,

If the airlines is refusing to give you more cash. You can negotiate for Frequent Flyer miles and/or free tickets.

Red face Please Help Me Understand

Hi I have part paid for a Ticket on Jet Airways leaving for London on the 31st May. Balance Due on the 15th May. I booked Travel Insurance through YATRA like wise the Ticket Paid in Cash for the Travel Insurance only to be told as I am A Foreigner I am not Insurable, so they will send me a Cheque for the Insurance paid. At the booking stage they were well aware that I am not Indian. I am concerned that JET AIRWAYS are havibg a problem with Fuel Prices will this affect my booking as I am worried about paying the Balance if this is the case!

Hi Guys
Good evening. I used Jet Airlines to travel from Dhaka to Mumbai and from Mumbai I used Kenya Airline to Come to Benin. They lost my Baggage and I have no trace of my Baggage till now. Can anyone advise what should I do? I already filed a lost baggage claim. But no feedback is given to me. What is the next step? I am corporate client for both the airlines.

Jet Airways has a set of rules through which it claims:
Quote:
For travel within India, Jet Airways' maximum liability for lost or damaged baggage and lost contents as a result of damage is Rs 450 per kilogram.

For international travels, including the domestic portions, subject to the Warsaw Convention, the liability limit for delay, damage or loss is approximately U.S. $9.07 per pound (U.S. $20 per kg) for checked baggage. Where the Montreal Convention applies, the liability of the Carrier for the delay, damage or loss to checked baggage is limited to 1,000 Special Drawing Rights per guest.
It says at another place regarding delayed luggage:
Quote:
Delayed baggage must be reported to a Jet Airways representative or baggage agent in the baggage hall before you leave the airport. It is important to do so as soon as possible so we may obtain information pertinent to locating your luggage.
...
If you must make interim purchases such as toiletries, please ask a baggage representative to inform you of our guidelines.
...
In rare cases where the bag is not recovered within 14 days, Jet Airways will settle your claim up to our maximum liability of Rs450 per kilogram of checked baggage (for flights within India) or as limited by either the Montreal or the Warsaw Convention (for international flights), as applicable.

If the value of your bag contents exceeds Jet Airways' liability, you may wish to consider purchasing baggage insurance through your own insurance company, prior to travel.
