It might help if you also mentioned your education, skill set, where exactly in Hyderabad you are located (to help find a job at a place not too far from you) and your experience.

I have two suggestions:

http://www.saciwaters.org/about.html

Quote:
SaciWATERs, South Asia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Water Resources Studies, was formed as a project on the theme "water for food and rural development" after the 2000 World Water Forum at Hague, was established with the aim of bringing a paradigm perspective. Based in Hyderabad, India, the consortium comprises accomplished scholars acd activists from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. SaciWATERs produces new knowledge to address the pressing problems in the water sector in south Asia through education, research and advocacy. It has created a new group of professionals and experts through its Crossing Boundaries Project which aims to contribute to the paradigm shift in water resources management in South Asia by means of various partnership-based programmes for capacity building of water professionals through higher education, innovative and social learning focused research ("research with an impact"), knowledge based development and networking.
http://www.saciwaters.org/get-involved.html

Quote:
SaciWATERs offers various volunteer positions for students and professionals in the field of research, administration, media management etc. The applicants would be offered the assignments depending on their qualification and area of interest.

If you are interested in getting involved, please write to us with a detailed CV and a cover letter stating the reasons for your interest at: info@saciwaters.org

This one may appeal to you especially, however is much further away - perhaps you could volunteer online?

SAMRUDHI's mission is to empower the poor and underprivileged to become economically self-reliant by providing cost effective and need based financial services in a financially sustainable manner”

SAMRUDHI recognizes that contribution of time and talent are just as important as financial contribution. Therefore SAMRUDHI encourages volunteers to contribute their time by volunteering at our Head Office. Volunteering with SAMRUDHI is a rewarding experience as volunteers get to participate actively in accelerating social and economic change in the lives of poor. SAMRUDHI's volunteers build awareness of solutions to the Micro finance challenges and raise critical resources to implement these solutions. Volunteering can be a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, gain useful experience, develop new interest, and to be part of the community. Believe us, it does make a meaningful impact ! If you think that you can help SAMRUDHI to grow and accomplish its mission, then please join us. For further discussion, please contact us.

Many charities would welcome someone of your experience as a volunteer. There may be one or more at this link which would be a good match.

One other suggestion: since you are located near OU, this school for the differently abled children below the age of 12 may be of interest to you. I do not know if they have any positions but Hubsiguda is very near you, just 3 km.

women's volunteer work

hello

i can't figure out how to start a new thread, so i'll just tag along to this one!

I would like to do some volunteer work specifically with women... helping empower women, setting up small businesses, working with abused women.

I have the following:

B.A. in theatre +sociology
Licensed Massage Therapist... with manual lymphatic drainage
Permaculture designer, with a lot of farming experience
Certified Nursing Assistant

volunteer experience in:

career advisor in homeless shelter
tutor to ESL latino children
working with disabled children/teens

I will be in india from October to ???

Any suggestions? I'm open to the area, and i'd prefer it to not cost too much.

Hi Mahalo, welcome to Indiamike

To start a new thread, you go to the forum you want to post in (click Forums in the top red bar and pick your forum there), and then click New Post at the top left of the screen. It's not possible for anybody to post in 'India for Beginners' forum, and Chai & Chat is restricted until you have a certain minimum post count and days of membership but other than that all the forums you see there on the forums page are open to you to start a thread in.

Are you looking for volunteer work specifically in Hyderabad? If so I'll leave your post here, otherwise I'll move it to a new thread.

@Julia - mahalo might be Hawaiian for 'thank you', rather than Yellowfoot's name. I'll answer here and you can shift the whole thing later.

@Yellowfoot

First up - we're obliged to tell you it is illegal to volunteer whilst on a tourist visa. And if you do apply for an employment visa to volunteer you'll need your placement to be with a 'registered' NGO.

Secondly - have a trawl through the various websites to search for an opening which fits.

Thank you.

I have looked into those sites. I have already sent my application for a tourist visa! maybe I can try switching it before it is too late.

@Yellowfoot - you need to be aware that it is simply not a matter of applying for an employment visa in the same way as a tourist visa - there are a couple of hoops to deal with - primarily having your volunteer placement arranged in advance, and a letter from the registered NGO as confirmation.

http://www.visa.blsindia-usa.com/employmentVisa.php
Quote:
Applicant intending to do volunteer, work with charities or non-profit organizations must include a letter from the sponsoring organization in India on letterhead indicating the nature and the duration of the visit and place of work and the same letter signed by authorized signatory. The letter from the sponsoring organization needs to state weather the applicant will be a paid or non-paid intern.

Yeah, but those applicants who submit all that paperwork for volunteering are often rejected a visa anyway.

I don't know anyone who has been rejected a (volunteer) employment visa. I have helped nearly a hundred get them in the past, as far as I am aware non have been rejected. I am on the same visa. This year I had to submit a bit more info (about my education), but that's all.
