Hi everybody!
I have started to communicate with the staff at Tibetan Delek Hospital and I'm planning to work there for 3-4 months. They are in desperatly need of doctors and other trained health professionals. TB is a big problem there as well as lots of other diseases. I've found some info googling the net but it would be nice to hear if any IM:ers has worked there. If anyone else would like to take a break from western stress and maybe make a difference we could maybe meet up there.
I love the surroundings and I hope that I will get some time of for trekking as well.

If you mean the one on the road between McLeod Ganj/Dharamsala then I haven't worked there but I did have some treatment there last September.
I got bitten on the foot by the family dog at my homestay. He was normally very docile but got stressed out during a bad storm & hid under the chair in my room (had never gone in there before!) I accidentally stepped on him!
It wasn't a severe bite but my foot got infected so I went to the Tibetan Delek hospital as it was only 15 minutes walk from where I was living. I was seen by a Canadian doctor (not sure if he was a volunteer) & had antibiotic injection + tablets. They also recommended rabies injections even though I was sure the dog wasn't sick. Had course of 3 but as he (the dog) was still fine after 10 days I didn't need any more.
Great little hospital with a fantastic view from the outpatients waiting area!!
Good luck with your placement. I loved my time in the area -3 months voluntary teaching at a local village school. Planning to return sometime next year once I've saved some money.

Delek is a good little hospital. I've been there a number of times over the years. If you are planning to go, you might want to look on-line for a book called A Doctor in Little Lhasa I didn't get a chance to read all of it, but what I did read I really enjoyed. I believe that he was there more than 10 years ago, so it would be interesting for you to compare what has changed and what hasn't.

Thanks for the info! I will try to get hold of the book. It will feel good to practice some real medicine again!
