Hi all,
I'm about to start working at a rural Indian school & I would like to arrive there with a few ideas for games arts/crafts.
To any of you good people who have done this kind of work if you know of some fun activities I can do with the young kids I would be very grateful for your help.

Blessings,

Janet

Children love to play with colours or you can promote computer literacy on your laptop if you carry the one.

I've noticed kids in India (at least here in Navi Mumbai) love playing the "Houise" games a lot. You can think of a nice system of rewards.

Janet!

I could spend hours talking about games, once having held the title "games master".

Check this website to get your creative minds flowing. http://www.wilderdom.com/games/

Keep in mind the language barrier. I've found some groups don't have the patience to learn a new game if you cannot explain it. Try to avoid the use of electronics. Its just not realistic to engage large groups. Use locally available items for games and crafts. If you want to bring something, make it "Connect 4". Hands down the most popular game when you don't share a language!

Good luck to you!

With smaller kids it is always fun to make some finger games/plays with them.
Educational its about improving movements and coordination (fine motor skills), fantasy and can easy be connected with rhymes, singing or telling a story.
It gives different levels for all ages, even some tricks (like magic) for elder kids and adults.
And its for free, the kids can show something at home to the family and may play there too.

Additional, its already played allover the world, make string figures - sometimes its called "cat's cradle".

On the crafty side you could make small crafts with recycled plastic bottles, other recycled materials or with fabrics. Just remember, mostly they don't have many tools to work with it.

You'll find lots of ideas for fingerplays online. Enjoy it and have fun.
