Hi everyone, new one here.
Just looking for some information about an NGO volunteering organisation- www.volunteeringinindia.org. Has anyone used them/had any experience. They seem relatively cheap and food/overland travel etc... is included with the price. They seem to be rather keen on me earning money to fund the trip though and want payment in cash when I get there.
As I have no experience in these things, I dont know whether this is the done thing or not. As I'm going to be there all on my own I dont want to have to deal with anything dodgy etc... whilst I'm over there.
Any advice much welcomed.
yours naively,
Jon

Welcome, Jonuk!

Visited the website... dont know this organisation but..

500 usd for 4 weeks! and a 100 usd application fee!!
Quite apart from the fact that i can never understand why somebody should pay for volunteering, this looks like a scam. For this 600usd (27000 rupees), a family of four middle-middle class lives for a month in a major city!!

I am wary of non profit organisations who seem to run these as a business, and there are many these days.

volunteering

I would say that having to pay to vokunteer is a scam!! Unless of course this is covering any accomodation or travel etc, which is fair enough that you should fund raise to cover and pay yourself, rather than pay them???

If you are interested i have now found one that does not charge anything, you just fund your own accomadation and travel, we are setting up now a project to send people over there, this is a five yr project with 4 people going out a year, starting this November.

If you want to know more PM me and I will give you the details.
