Hi all! I'm headed to India in a few weeks and my biggest intention is to be of service. I am curious if any of you have favorite spots that you've volunteered at. I am flexible in terms of what part of the country I'm going, so any and all suggestions are welcome. I'm particularly interested in working with children at an orphanage, but am open. What places have you had great experiences at? I'm definitely looking for free opportunities, ideally with lodging and food as well. Thanks!!

Dharamasala. Just asked around and found that there was a Tibetan nun looking for some English lessons. No lodging or food involved . . . the smile on her face - Tenzin Wangmo was her name - was more than enough.

I guess you can check this post before you get associated with any NGO/Ashram etc. http://www.indiamike.com/india/chai-...4/#post1792415

I sometime volunteer for a NGO but it's not exactly what you might be looking for.

Care to share your options so far? I'm about the same situation you are.

Thank you,
Alex
