I am planning for Varanasi in Oct-Nov time, primarily for a photography workshop. This being my first visit there, I will prefer a dependable person/organization arranging such a workshop. I am already trying to establish connection with Apratim Saha, Vinay Tripathi and Manish Khattry. If you guys have any experience with them, please share. You may also suggest me some other contacts for this purpose.
Regards,
Avishek.

As a matter of fact I conducted one sometime back. The primary question is why are you looking for a workshop ? What are you planning to gain from them ? Knowing that will be extremely important.

Actually I want to get an on field guidance on "how and what to shoot at Varanasi".
After this I would go and explore myself.
So I am looking for a quick start which will introduce me to the possibilities in Varanasi, which can help me to explore in subsequent visits.

Please give me a ping once you plan something similar in future.

Probably another one in November, dates still uncertain , will avoid the "Devdeepabali" days because of mad rush.
Few pointers , Varanasi is so photogenic that you can perhaps camp anywhere for a day and shoot hundreds of shots. Have a walk starting from the Assi ghat to Manikarnika Ghat and beyond. I personally never shoot the burning of dead bodies though. But apart from that , the Ghat areas are an incomparable cauldron of cultures and humanity. Just soak that inside and you will have plenty of photo ops including the much hyped Aarti in the evening. You can explore the adjacent Bangali-tolla lanes, the wrestling arenas and the stream of humanity. Catch a boat ride in the morning and afternoons. Plenty of fooding options around, enjoy them , shoot them as well. Give time and the city will grow inside you. I am sure you will fall in love with the place.

Anytime. You will go as a friend , not as a participant of some work shop. May be we can plan a trip together along with some friends from here as well.
