I am going to Varanasi in a couple of weeks time with the intention of finding a flute teacher. I am thinking staying at least two months and was consideing my options for accomadation. Last time I stayed for a month in Varanasi I was in a guest house but I was wondering if anyone knew or could suggest some alternatives, perhaps if people know of homestays or something similar or even better if other people who are studying music could tell me what they do (I know there is the Gurana system but I'm worried that may be a little intense). Anyway any help would be good.

I've done the same thing, studied bansuri in Varanasi, both six-month stays. I stayed in guest houses each time. The second time I did was Definitely the Best . . . a guest house called the Tiwari Lodge, just a few minutes walk up from Asi Ghat. Tremendous owners/managers . . . great guest - many, long termers like me, studying a variety of things: instruments, voice, Sanskrit, Hindi. Also very close to where I met my guru each day for practice.

You might also e-mail the Hotel Temple on Ganges, they offered to help me find an apartment before I hooked up with the folks at the Tiwari.

Hi friends,

Can you suggest me some guest house with River facing rooms? I'll be travelling in February for a short visit.

Thanks in advance.
