Dear all - I'm travelling with my wife and 5 year old to Varanasi and am looking for a child-friendly hotel recommendation (I'm expecting the 5 YO to be fairly overwhelmed by Varanasi so looking for a bit of a refuge). Many thanks to anyone who can help

Hi, What is your approximate budget and what are your interests?

Assi ghat has a good vibe and choice of hotels to fit most budgets. The moderately priced Palace on the Ganges might suit you. In addition, it is conveniently situated for boat rides on the Ganges. Slightly cheaper is the Ganges View (also at Assi Ghat).

Another good option on Asi Ghat is Hotel Temple On Ganges.

Strongly agree that Assi Ghat is the place to be.

Suspect that your five year old will take Varanasi in stride more easily than you. It's all new every day everywhere to a five year old. But Varanasi is pretty shocking when you've been pent up in a Hertforsdhire market town for how-many-years-is-it-now?.

Ignore nycank. He has a dirty mind. Unless , of course, you follow double entendres. In which case I, being an innocent, am out of my depth; and you should listen to nycank. If you can prise him away from shibari.

I found Varanasi a shock. You can read about it if you like here :

Assi tussi, lassi pissi = Them are not Hindi words. These are punju words - and the fourth is nonsense word as inert filler.

Details, details, Assi assis,
Las, si,
Pis, si ! Could be a French rendering ( meaning "sitting at Assi Ghat, Bored, yeah, Too bad, yeah !)

Go to Trip Advisor, Booking.com, etc. sites and search amenity listings (after inputting date/price range) for "playground."
Or google Varanasi + hotel + playground and several listings will pop up. Another amenity possibly is "babysitter" but that's only at high-end places.

Indeed.

Assi = Mine (ours, really)
Tussi = Yours
Lassi = Lassi (and isnt Varanasi home to the blue lassi)
Pissi = nonsense but sounds like 'drinking it'

These lyrics are global in scope - there is honolulu, king kong, mombasa, all within first few lines! such depth ....
