Hi all

There are a few posts related to Khirsu, but none touches upon accommodation. I'm contemplating driving to Khirsu end of December, so looking for any tips on:

1.) Which route to take from Delhi? I don't mind longer options as long as driving is smoother (I am thinking Badrinath highway would be better with Dhams closed).
Meerut > Khatauli > Kotdwara > Khirsu (360 KM)
OR (all 400 kms below options)
Meerut > Muzaffarnagar > Roorkee > Rishikesh > Devprayag > Pauri > Khirsu
OR
Meerut > Muzaffarnagar > Roorkee > Rishikesh > Devprayag > Kirtinagar > Khirsu

2.) Where to stay? I have found GMVN (with all bad reviews although I like GMVN places), Hotel Taj Himalaya, Badri Vishal Guesthouse

Thanks for any advice!!
The last puff of the day-wind brought from the unseen villages the scent of damp wood-smoke, hot cakes, dripping undergrowth, and rotting pine- cones. That is the true smell of the Himalayas, and if once it creeps into the blood of a man, that man will at the last, forgetting all else, return to the hills to die.

I have stayed at the GMVN property. The location is superb , perhaps the best. Service and rooms are acceptable , not bad enough to get into someone's hair IMO. Prices are very reasonable and the front garden will not let you get inside the rooms anytime before the evening.

Take this, or instead of going to Khatauli, go via Meerut -Pauri highway, NH 119 (for reference, Mawana khurd comes on this route). I always took this route while going to lansdowne side.

And yes, I would also go for GMVN and ignore minor issues.
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

The second option is the best, as the roads were very good during my visit in 2010. The road via Kotdwara bypassing Lansdowne is quite circuitous upto Satpuli and one having travel sickness will definitely despise this strech
