We have decided to make it to any hills in himachal or uttrakhand in this coming Independence weekend and zeroed to VOF. Please see our below plan and suggest whether it is possible or not. If possible, then also please do give a look on the questions below.

Day 1/Friday - Flight To Delhi. Delhi to haridwar by Bus.
Day 2/Sat - Reach Haridwar in early morning. Bus to Joshimath. N/S.
Day 3/Sun - Joshimath to Govindghat and then trek to Gangharia. N/S.
Day 4/Mon - Gangharia to Valley of flowers and return. N/S.
Day 5/Tue - Gangharia to Govindghat trek, then to Joshimath(**). N/S.
Day 6/Wed - Reach Rishikesh, spent some time. Get onto night bus to Delhi.
Day 7/Thu - Early morning flight back and join office.

I understand the fact that eventually we are staying only 2 days in VOF, but I am bit of stuck with the dates and we are ready to have some adventure than nothing. Also as I heard it is a good time for VOF.

Q1: To all experienced IMers in this route, does this plan look worthwhile?
Q2: I have travelled few areas in himachal and some in uttrakhand but never been to VOF. Can we do this trek on our own (from Govindghat)?
Q3: What are the sleepover options in Gangharia?
Q4: While return at Day5 and 6 can someone suggest alternative route till haridwar/rishikesh?

Finger crossed.

Plan seems quite alright, you can certainly trek your own.
One buffer day would be good, you never know the weather and road condition in Himalayas.
While coming back, you may visit 'Yogadhyan Badri' temple at Govindghat.
Since your are pressed in time, while coming back, you may stay at Chamoli or Rudraprayag instead of Joshimath.
happy journey,
Malay

Day 1/Friday - Flight To Delhi. Delhi to Rishikesh : try t reach Rishikesh at around 12 midnight or 1 at night. .So you won't be required to rent a hotel. Go to the checkpost and grab a seat in the first share vehicle going to Joshimath
Day 2/Sat - Reach Joshimath and fron there try and move further to Govindghat. Overnite in Govind ghat
Day 3/Sun - Leave any extra stuff in Govindghat and trek to Ganghariya.
Day 4/Mon - Gangharia to Valley of flowers and return. N/S.
Day 5/Tue - Leave Early morning (arnd 4 AM) for Hemkund Sahib and return back to Gnaghariya by noon. Trek down to Govindghat and then to Joshimath.
Day 6/Wed - Reach Rishikesh, spent some time. Get onto night bus to Delhi.
Day 7/Thu - Early morning flight back and join office.

Q1) Plan is doable
Q2) You don,t need a guide up to Ghangharia, you will find many Sikh Pilgrim going on that route till Ghangharia. For VOF you may hire a guide he will tell you about flowers etc.
Q3) GMVN at Ghangharia is a good stay option with kitchen facility. Private hotels like Blue Poppy are also available.
Q4) if times permits you can return via chamoli Gopeshwar- Chopta- Ukhimat- Rudraprayag

Thank you all for your suggestions and tips.

However, there are two obstacle I see. I will be reaching Delhi not before than 1-2am. Plus, I checked return flight on Day 7 DEL-HYD. If I take a night bus from haridwar/rishikesh, by the time we will be reaching at Kashmere Gate, wont be able to catch the flight from T3/T2. It appears to be bit risky with no time as buffer. So, the whole plan folds for now. I again thank everyone for their inputs. Will use this info in future. I seriously miss those days when I stayed at Delhi. I am still struggling to reach any himalayan range in this 5 days timespan. Any other suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Your option for the above is take the flight from Dehradun to HYD and then you can reach Hyderabad on 15th (Day 6) at 22 55.

Also from HYD flight to Dehradun leave at 7 40am, reach DED by 12 10. Reach Rishikesh bus stand/Natraj chowk by 1 30pm max and reach Pipalkoti or even Joshimath by bus or share jeep same day. (11th)

While coming down from VoF, you can skip night halt at Ghagria and reach Govindghat directly.

Should be able to manage - but you will be really running hard!

Can combine day 5 & 6, if you're in a hurry. Leave early like 4-5 AM on day 5. If Rishikesh seems too much, then at-least reach Rudraprayag/ Srinagar the same day. There are buses/ jeeps from Joshimath till at-least lunch-time in yatra season.

Or

Go for a hike in outer ranges: Nag Tibba, or if you dont want to arrange hassles of camping, then Churdhar peak.

Or

Can also fit Tungnath-Deoria Tal/ Madmaheshwar in your schedule. Advantage is that it's closer to Rishikesh, so on last day, you can reach Rishikesh by noon, and Delhi by late evening, assuming no landslides.

Or

Flight to Srinagar and go for any Kashmir trek. Advantage: Monsoon doesn't reach Kashmir Himalaya in full-fury and reduced travel-time. Disadvantage: Kashmir has increased instances of violent mobs in recent past.
If you know your body acclimatizes quickly, can fly to Leh, and go for Sham valley trek as well. But do not try this if you're not sure about how your body reacts to altitude. It can be fatal.
