Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and hence, I apologize if I am repeating the query or if I am in the wrong section.

I am planning a trip to north India in last week of November. I will start the trip from Delhi and end at Delhi and have 6 days with me. I will hire vehicle from Delhi. I was planning to see Auli and have the Chopta-Chandrshila trek. I wanted to know how should I plan the trip, where should I go first and can I add few more places or the travelling to & from Delhi and these two places wud take all the time. Just to give an idea I will start from Delhi on a Sat morning and want to reach Delhi next Friday morning (in Nov last week).

I also wanted to ask what are the chances of me finding snow during that time and is it actually the right time to see those places? If not, what alternate locations for snow can I consider in North India (except Leh Ladakh).

Thanks & Regards
Vishal

Driving Delhi-Joshimath/Auli and back will take care of 3 full days. That leaves you with little time to do more than you're planning for.

So if you leave Delhi on Sat morning, you can e.g go upto Shrinagar or Rudraprayag.
Sunday morning - leave for Auli, reach by lunch.
Monday - at Auli
Tuesday - leave for Chopta via Gopeshwar.
Wednesday - walk Chopta-Tungnath-Chandrashila and back.
Thursday - Chopta to Haridwar.
Friday - Haridwar to Delhi (you need 5 hours)

Hi Dilliwala,

Thanks for the reply.

1. Leaving Auli on Tue for Chopta would give only 1.5 days (Half Sunday + Monday) at Auli. Is it too less time to see at Auli? Or do I leave Auli Tue evening for Chopta (wanted to confirm whether evening travel is feasible)?
2. Also since it won't be snowing in Nov and I won't be doing Skiing wat can I do and which places can i visit near Auli?
3. Can i include Devaria taal in this itinerary somehow? How do I structure my trip if i include it?
4. Is Nov last week the right time to visit those places? Anything else you can suggest me in Uttarakhand if I wish to see snow?

Really appreciate your help. Thanks a lot.

Regards
Vishal

1) It's not too little unless you want to trek.
You should leave Auli by mid-morning for Chopta. In the hills it's always better to drive during the day only.

2) You can walk 4 km to Gorson. Excelent views from there.

3) You can include Devriya, but then you should drop Chopta/Tungnath.

4) It's a very good time. Snow you'll see on the distant peaks, satisfy yourself with that.

There's not that much you can pack into 6 days specially if you have to include driving time. If you want to see more places you'll have to increase the days.

In my view, you may drop Auli...nothing much in non ski months, more so if you don't wish to trek from there on.
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

How can some one dare to comment? When veterans like DW & TM are already on work

Just taking my chance, sneaking here and there to be in royalty somehow, hoping that my hard work is paid and I am admitted to veteranhood.

Firstly, ANYONE can comment!

Secondly, jitu is a veteran himself.

Thirdly, I wonder whether it's better to be a veteran or a veterinarian.

Dilliwala/TravelMaster/Jitu,

Thanks a ton for your inputs. Infact I am really glad to have different opinion from different people.
I have made a rough itineary which is very close to wat travelmaster suggested..
But i have few doubts wrt the itineary and also wrt to wat jitu suggested regarding auli..
1. If i start from Delhi around 11 am in morning for sari, till wat point can i cover on tht day.. is rudrayaprayag possible?
2. after overnite stay at rudrayaprayag i will travel to sari and then do the deorital trek. i want to do a overnight at deorital.. are thr any hotels/lodges thr or i need to stay in tents? will i get tents thr or do i need to carry my own?
3. i will trek to deorital, chandrashila and gurson.. will i find gud snow at any of these places.. i knw snow fall wudn't have happened in last week of nov.. but will thr be snow from last season at these places..
4. regarding jitu's suggestion of dropping auli which i am also considering.. this is only coz some1 told me tht auli is place to enjoy in snow and without snow it isn't tht gr8.. i don't mind not finding snowfall but i only hope it won't be barren? will i find greenery and gud scenic views at auli (i mean at auli base not at gurson)?
5. lastly as per the above itineary, i will hire a car from delhi but will leave the car at haridwar to catch a train to delhi.. will tht be more expensive for me?

1) It's possible, but you'll reach very late, a few hours after dark. Better to aim for Shrinagar.

2) There's a guesthouse, Reflection Resort. There are also permanent tents, no need to carry your own. I've put contact details in another thread, just search.

3) First time to the hills, isn't it ? Old snow can never last that long, none of these places is above the snow line. If you're lucky you might find a few dollops at Chandrashila and Gorson.

4) I've been to Auli in April and liked it (don't really care whether there's snow or not). End-Nov you'll certainly get greenery and stunning views - it's one of the few places in Garhwal where the peaks look in touching distance.

5) You'll have to pay for the car Delhi to Delhi, so taking a train doesn't help you.

Thanks again for the quick reply. So i am most probably freezing this itineary..
day 1 - reach delhi arnd 8:30 am by Mumbai Rajdhani. hire a car and try to reach srinagar/rudrayprayag. overnight at srinagar/rudrayprayag.
day 2 - early morning start from srinagar/rudrayprayag. reach sari.. trek to deorital and overnight at deorital..
day 3 - enjoy deorital and chopta surroundings.. overnight at chopta..
day 4 - morning chopta chandrashila trek. post lunch travel to auli by car. overnight at gmvn auli.
day 5 - do the gurson bugyal trek. overnight at gmvn auli.
day 6 - travel back to haridwar. take overnight train for Delhi (mussorie express from haridwar at 23:00).

1. if any 1 wants to suggest any changes to the above itineary plz comment.. wud be helpful..
2. so i wud be having nite stay at srinagar/rudrayaprayag, deprotal, chopta & auli.. i will try to find gud places to stay here by searching the forum.. but i only want to know do i need to do booking at all these places? or nov end season quite lean and i won't find any problems.. further if i do booking how much time in advance they take it.. now its only june.. more than 5 months to go..
3. Is there any place in Himachal or Uttranchal where i can definitely find gud snow in nov last week.. time is less so can't go to leh/north east..

Dilliwala, yup.. my first proper trip to hills.. went to shimla once for just one nite.. also i wanted to go to some place not very commercialized.. hence didn't opt for manali, mussorie, shimla etc..

Only one correction suggested:
Day 5: After visiting Gorson, enjoy your lunch at Auli and start for Pipalkoti or Chamoli (in the late afternoon) for Night stay. As Auli is a bit expensive (even GMVN) so it will save your money and will reduce the travel time (to Delhi) by 2-2.5 hours.

Happy Traveling!!

I thought you have little time so asked you to cut out Auli, in case you have enough time to even trek to bugyal, then it is great, you will enjoy
