Snowfall brings down mercury
Dehradun, December 6
Heavy snowfall in the hilly areas today brought down mercury in the state. According to the Met Department, the state is likely to receive more snow and rain in the next 48 hours.
The Char Dham region comprising — Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath — also received snowfall, the Met Office said.
The weather is muggy in Pithoragarh and nearby areas and rains have been predicted there.

‘Little Kashmir’ Munsiyari is ready to welcome tourists, but not its roads
MUNSIYARI: For many tourists planning a white Christmas or New Year among snow-capped mountains this year, all roads lead to the picturesque town of Munsiyari in the Kumaon Himalayas. But despite 75% of hotels and homestays here being booked from December 20 to January 5, hoteliers in the area said tourists will first be welcomed with a bumpy ride as the main road to the town is riddled with gaping holes. Ahead of tourist season, three roads closed in Mussoorie
Mussoorie: Even as Christmas and New Year is approaching, three crucial roads in Mussoorie, including the Tehri bypass (a national highway), Kapadia lane (a short cut to connect with Tehri Bypass road) and South road are, closed for repairs. Residents say they are hoping that the repairs are done before the tourist rush to the town begins. Last winter saw ‘Mussoorie Full’ signs put up at Kothal Gate itself, the entry point to Mussoorie.
Also, all these roads help connect to Landour, a rather popular area with tourists now.

Snowfall, rain intensify chill

Dehradun, Decemver 12
Snowfall in the higher reaches of the hill districts of Uttarakhand and rains in most places brought the temperatures down across the state today intensifying cold.
Vikram Singh, Director, Met Office, said widespread rains have been reported from most places in the last 24 hours while 1-2 feet of snow was received in areas located above 3,000 feet in Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi districts.
The four Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri located in these districts are snow-laden. Higher reaches get snow, Thal-Munsiyari road blocked for 8 hours
UTTARKASHI/PITHORAGARH/DEHRADUN: The higher reaches of the state experienced a round of snowfall on Tuesday after rain on Monday night in several parts of Uttarakhand. Dharchula and Munsiyari received first snow of the season. Foot-deep snow on the 10km-long Thal-Munsiyari road left it blocked to traffic for eight hours on Tuesday.
In Uttarkashi, Gangotri and Yamunotri received heavy snow. The rain coupled with icy winds also decreased mercury in lower regions of the district.
Devendra Patwal, disaster management officer, Uttarkashi, said, “Yamunotri highway has been slightly affected after a landslide in Ojri region. However, vehicles are using an alternate route which had been prepared earlier. No let up from cold wave conditions till Thursday
DEHRADUN: People across Uttarakhand woke up to extreme cold conditions on Tuesday with snowfall in higher reaches and rains lashing most parts of the Himalayan state. The weather experts have predicted similar conditions on Wednesday and a slight respite for cold wave conditions from Thursday onwards.
Heavy round of snow fall was witnessed in higher reaches of Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Almora, Uttarakashi and Chakrata areas of the state. Avalanche warning for 5 districts in U’khand
DEHRADUN: The Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment, a unit of DRDO, issued an avalanche warning on Wednesday for Himalayan states, including five districts of Uttarakhand, between December 13 evening and December 14 evening. Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Tehri districts have been marked unsafe.
Chief secretary Utpal Kumar Singh issued an advisory to all five district magistrates​ following this​, asking them to remain alert and prepared to tackle any emergency situation.

Following heavy snowfall in higher reaches of Garhwal, including Kedarnath, the Rudraprayag district authorities have started the clearing of snow in order to ensure that there is no halt to construction activities being undertaken at Kedarnath.
As many as five development projects are underway in Kedarnath the foundation stones for which were laid by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Kedarnath. Bridge collapses on Gangotri highway

Uttarkashi: A 60-meter-long Bailey bridge on Gangotri-Dharasu national highway (108) in Uttarkashi district collapsed on Thursday morning. The only bridge in Indo-China border region which also connects the Uttarkashi district headquarters with other areas, collapsed due to overloading as two trucks tried to cross it at the same time. Snowfall hits Kedarnath reconstruction work

Dehradun, December 15

The reconstruction work at the Kedarnath shrine has been suspended due to inclement weather and sub-zero temperature, an official said today. The Met said snowfall continued in the region and on Thursday the mercury dropped to minus 50°C.

NGT bans plastic in Haridwar, Rishikesh

New Delhi, December 15

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) today reiterated its 2015 order banning the use, sale, manufacturing and storage of plastic items in the pilgrimage towns of Haridwar and Rishikesh. The tribunal ordered a fine of Rs 5,000 on the violators. REITERATED being the operative word here.... who cares, what gets implemented, it's a sorry state of affairs. I can't tell you how bad the garbage management is in Uttarkashi, well there's no management, simply chuck it down the hillside...

Plans for distribution of organic prasad in Chardham being finalized

As reported in this forum earlier that arrangement were being worked out to distribute locally produced organic food in form of prasad in the Chardham destinations has finally taken shape and Amaranthus (Cholai in Hindi) seeds laddoos will be served in prasad and distributed in locally made small baskets called ringal - here is the link to the news - https://www.jagran.com/uttarakhand/r...-17673155.html

Helicopter tickets for Chardham yatra to be available online
