Hemkunt Sahib, Auli draped in white

Dehradun, January 7

An intense cold wave gripped Uttarakhand on Monday as snowfall continued intermittently in the hill tracts, officials said.

It has been snowing in the Dhanaulti and Surkanda areas in Mussoorie since Saturday while heavy snowfall is also intermittently taking place in Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath.
Due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility, the Yamunotri and Gangotri highways have closed, disrupting the communication to more than 20 villages. According to the Regional Met Office, there can be rain and fresh snowfall at some places in the Kumaon region on Monday.
Fog has disrupted normal life in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar while places such as Hemkunt Sahib and Auli are completely covered in snow. The snow in the hill regions has also impacted weather in the plains and the mercury has dropped in these places. The maximum temperature expected in Dehradun is 19.2C while the minimum was 6.6C. Mussoorie has recorded a minimum of 3.6C while Uttarkashi is shivering at 3C - here is the link to the news - https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/ut...te/710415.html

Heavy snow cuts off two dozen villages in Uttarkashi; Yamunotri, Gangotri highways blocked
TNN | Jan 13, 2019, 09.38 PM IST
Uttarkashi: Over two dozen villages in Mori, Purola, Naugaun and Bhatwari blocks in Uttarkashi district were cut off from district headquarters on Sunday following a spell of heavy snowfall in upper Himalayas. The fresh bout of snow also left the Gangotri and Yamunotri highways blocked for a few hours early Sunday morning but teams of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were quick to clear the stretch and resume traffic movement.
What is primarily adding to the woes of villagers is that supply of essential services has been badly disrupted. Sources said that in around 12 villages, pipelines have frozen, hitting drinking water supply.

Patwari Singh, gram pradhan of Sewa village, 14 km from the nearest roadhead at Himachal-Uttarakhand border, in Mori block, told TOI, We are forced to melt snow for drinking water as water sources and pipelines have frozen. There is no electricity supply either.

It is a similar situation in Osla, Panwadi, Gangad, Dhatmeer, Sawdi, Liwadi, Fitadi, Bari, Hatwadi, Kiranu, Makudi and other villages, he added. - here is the link to the news - https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/67515772.cms

Roadways strike from tonight to hamper movement in Kumaon

After the talks broke down with the Unions, the workers of the State Roadways of Kumaon region have threatened to proceed on strike from tonight i.e. 15.1.2019. The main demand is not to allow private buses to run on the State and National Highways of Kumaon region as is being envisaged by the Government. The contentions of the workers is that they are not getting salaries for last three months due to poor collection of revenue and with private buses being introduced the entire system would collapse, making the Roadways a defunct organization. However, the strike is likely to affect about 80,000 persons who travel by this mode of transport, especially in remote areas where no other means of road communication is available - here is the link to the news in Hindi - https://www.amarujala.com/dehradun/r...-january-night
