All-weather Char Dham road likely by next year

At least 75 pc of the forest clearances have been attained and only a portion that will pass through the eco-sensitive zone is left
Dehradun, January 4

The Uttarakhand Government has resolved to complete work on the 899-km all-weather Char Dham road by March 2019. It comprises expanding the existing road and building new tunnels by cutting mountains.
At least 75 per cent of the forest clearances have been attained for the project, and only a portion that will pass through the eco-sensitive zone is left.
“Cutting of mountains will be completed before the monsoon. Areas have been earmarked for muck disposal,” said Om Prakash, Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works Department.

Uttarakhand in grip of severe cold wave

The entire state of Uttarakhand is in grip of severe cold wave, with the temperatures dipping after sunset and remaining intensely cold till sunrise, both in the plains as well in the mountain terrains. Respite from biting cold conditions likely after January 10: Met office
DEHRADUN: People of Uttarakhand, especially living in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and plain area of Dehradun and Pauri districts, are likely to get respite from biting cold conditions as mercury is expected to start rising from January 10 onwards.
The plain districts are experiencing severe cold day conditions for past few days with maximum temperature in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar district settling almost six to seven degrees Celsius below normal. Free entry to Beatles ashram during yoga fest
Dehradun: The state tourism department will celebrate 50 years of Beatles group at Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram in Rishikesh for the first three consecutive evenings during the International Yoga Festival starting from March 1- 7.
Forest minister Harak Singh Rawat also announced free entry to the ashram during the festival. He has also cut down the entry fee from Rs 150 to 100 for Indians and Rs 300 from 600 for foreign nationals for the ashram, which is situated in the Rajaji Tiger Reserve.

The Badrinath range receives snowfall for second consecutive day

Whereas, the entire state of Uttarakhand is still awaiting widespread snowfall and rainfall during the ensuing winter season, the Badrinath and Hemkund sahib range experienced snowfall for the second straight day and this increased the cold factor in the region. Peak winter almost over, no snowfall yet in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand
NEW DELHI: The peak winter period is almost over in north India and no major hill station in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand has yet received a single spell of snow. January has been almost totally dry across the region so far, raising concern over Himachal's apple crop and water availability in the summer if the trend continues.
Uttarakhand has 100% rain deficit in January so far, while in Himachal Pradesh it is more than 99%. The northern plains too have had no rain during the month, which is a major reason for the mild winter so far. Baluni village of Pauri district becomes another ghost village

Rain, snow end Uttarakhand’s dry spell
Dehradun: After a long dry spell that lasted through January, several places in Uttarakhand witnessed light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday while high altitude places in Char Dham districts received light snowfall. Mussoorie also received its first snowfall of the season with residents waking up to a thin layer of snow covering houses in Landour and Char Dukaan. Light showers lasted in the hill town late into the evening.
Dhanaulti also experienced snowfall, the Met office said, adding that places located at an altitude of 3,000m and above would continue to receive snow till Wednesday while other places could see light to moderate rainfall.
Bikram Singh, director at meteorological regional centre, said, “Hailstorms are likely to occur at isolated places, especially in Chakrata, Mussoorie, New Tehri, Nainital, Mukteshwar and Pithoragarh. Rain-snow in offing over hills of Uttrakhand on Feb 3
DEHRADUN: After witnessing rain and snow activity last week, a fresh western disturbance is likely to cause snow in the higher reaches and light to moderate showers in scattered places of Uttarakhand on February 3.
Regional Met office predicted that light snowfall is expected to lash the high altitude places with height of 3000m and above in the hilly districts of Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Chamoli and Rudraprayag. Rest of the districts will experience cloudy weather with chances of light intermittent showers.
Met director Bikram Singh said, “A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan region and adjoining plains from February 2. Hailstorm and rain to hit Uttarakhand in next 24 hous

The met department has issued bulletin whereby Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar & Pithoragarh is likely to received scattered rainfall, whereas places like Nainital, Chakrata, New Tehri, Mukteshwar etc. will receive wide rainfall accompanied by hailstorm in some places. Met dept predicts heavy snowfall, rain in Uttarakhand
Dehradun: After a prolonged dry spell, isolated places in the hills received scattered rainfall on Sunday, thanks to the influence of western disturbance.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy snowfall at higher reaches of Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts on Monday, while ‘yellow-coloured’ hailstorm warning was issued for isolated places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri and Nainital districts.

Fresh snowfall in Uttarakhand hills
Dehradun, February 12
Fresh overnight snowfall in the higher reaches of the hill districts and light showers in the plains of Uttarakhand added to the winter chill across the state today.
The MeT department has forecast that the minimum temperature will drop around two to three degrees below normal over the next few days. Kedarnath shrine to open on April 29

Dehradun, February 14
The revered Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand will open for devotees on April 29, officials said today.
As per the tradition, the date for opening the eighth century Shiva temple was declared after consultation among astrologers and priests, at a meeting held at the Shri Onkareshwar temple in Ukhimath in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand on Wednesday.
