Friends I have been maintaining a similar thread for Himachal Pradesh since 2012, although I have been posting similar news on this forum as well but it was in the thread titled 'Travel to Uttaranchal', which I feel was not the right forum for posting such information and so I have started this news thread - hope for your co-operation in maintaining it for public use

‘With construction and road repair work, the Jharipani trek has lost its charm’
Remember the old road, remember the old road. The steep stony path that took us up from Rajpur. Toiling and sweating and grumbling at the climb but enjoying it all the same. At first, the hills were hot and bare. But then there were trees near Jharipani. And we stopped at the Halfway House, and swallowed lungful of diamond-cut air, then onwards, upwards, to the town, our appetites to repair!" These lines from Ruskin Bond's Book of Verse, clearly depicts the beauty of the uneven, bumpy historical path between Rajpur and Jharipani. But things changed from the beginning of the month as that's when the road construction began in the area. The Jharipani trek is one of the last few treks left in Dehradun that goes up to Mussoorie. The road construction hasn' t just ruined the traditional trek path but is also harming the biodiversity of the area - here is the link to the news - https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/62118756.cms
