1000 seems expensive. Are those taxi union rates? You really don't need to book in advance, the taxi stand is just outside the RS and there'll be a line of cars waiting.

Yes, it is. But on a recent trip, even auto guys were asking for 500 bucks (they had a printed rate card). I hopped into a bus and reached Rishikesh for 35 Rupees or something. It cost me another 150 to cover the 3-4 kms from the stand to Tapovan, Rishikesh. Again standard fare. :dontgetit

the auto is a bit costly than vikram even in the town...
did you pay Rs. 150/- for bus stand to tapovan??
on a shared ride, its Rs. 5 for Ram jhula & Rs 8 for Tapovan from main market rishikesh..
when you arrive early morning ( before 7am ) or late night (after 10 pm ). , the roadways buses take the route as
main market->chandrabhaga bridge->bus stand

during daytime, they have to take the haridwar- rishikesh bypass route to reach bus stand...

if one is not having the heavy luggage, then he can walk to chandrabhaga bridge from bus stand ( ~500m) and then get a vikram towards ram jhula ....if you are unable to find it at bus stand...( even during daytime, it's difficult to find vikram at bus stand)

note:
vikram run mainly on market-> ram jhula road
while at natraj chowk & bus stand, auto are found
if you don't want to walk with luggage, other option is to de-board the bus at natraj chowk... from there, it's easier to find shared auto ( Rs. 8 for main market )
from the market, vikram run for ram jhula/ tapovan

Yep, 150, and that's what the caucus will stand for - with their rate card, not a paisa less. On another occasion we reached early, from Dehradun, and there was no shared option in sight at the stand. And even at that price, the experience was jarring because shock absorbers are a no-no. :mad:

Hey Folks,
I am off to Rishikesh for some yoga training in late January with 8 others. Everything is set up, except I am having a hard time finding a travel agent I can trust to set up some taxis to pick us up from the train station in Haridwar for the trip to Rishikesh. Can anyone recommend a reputable agent (and give me a contact number?) that might be able to hook us up?
Thanks in advance y'all.

Just returned from Haridwar with Mr Gajendra Panwar. He is a great person to travel with. He guided us throughout the tour just like a family member right from hotel to food to tour itinerary. He always did it without his profit and with smile from his heart. He always says "Tourist bankar aao, Mitra (friend) banakr jao". And kept his word.Very Highly recommended.

Hi ! I'm travelling to uttarkashi for one month basic moutaineering course at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in may end this year. I'm boarding train from Ahmedabad till haridwar. And will be spending one day and one night at rishikesh as I will get a bus to uttarkashi early morning from rishikesh. Kindly guide me where to stay in rishikesh. What all to see in rishikesh as I want to fully utilise my one day stay at rishikesh. Also about those early morning buses to uttarkashi. Where do you get these buses from ? How much do they charge ? Are we suppose to make any reservations in advance ? I'm travelling alone so making sure that if reservations are possible I will definitely opt for the same.
