Hi,
can the experts advise how the weather will be like in early in May in Chaukori/Munsiyari? Will it be good for views, and will there be snow?
I have heard that during that time it could often rain, spoiling views and causing landslides - is this true?
Also, can we get cars hired from Kathgodam? Or is it advisable to hire one from Delhi for the entire trip.
I will be with traveling with family, and one small kid - so the trip needs to be well planned.
Also, i gather that KMVN in Binsar is a better bet than Club Mahindra?

Not sure about the weather though.

Better place to hire cars would be at Haldwani. You will have more options here.

Mahindra at Binsar is a bit far away from the town. KMVN at Binsar is a better bet and at a good location.

All I can say is that I was in Chaukori once in May and because of the clouds there was no view. I think May depends on your luck weatherwise for a clear day. October-November I think are considered the best months for clear views.

I am planning a trip to this place- NOW. And I need inputs from people who have been there. Aarosh and Aananda, you know the type of traveller I am , so what suggestions do you have for me? My base to start would be Haldwani. From there, I may take a bike, up to Munsiyari. But assist me regarding how it would be.

We went there once in december and we got fabulous views,april-September from what I hear have very less chances of good views. If you're going for the views then go there some other time.
And KMVN has the best location in Binsar.

Hi,
can the experts advise how the weather will be like in early in May in Chaukori/Munsiyari? Will it be good for views, and will there be snow?
>> It’s a nice time to visit. Will be cold in the nights and early mornings (especially for small kid); but otherwise will be pleasant to a little warm throughout.

I have heard that during that time it could often rain, spoiling views and causing landslides - is this true?
>> Yes, stretch from Chaukori to Munsiyari is prone to slides if it rains. No doubt it’s a beautiful drive. May should be fine, since it's not a peak rainy time.

Also, can we get cars hired from Kathgodam? Or is it advisable to hire one from Delhi for the entire trip.
>> Yes, you can get cars from Kathgodam. You can contact Puran from Naina Travels in Kathgodam at 94120-17383, we hired a cab from these guys in Dec for our trip to Ranikhet and had a nice experience. We too are family people; so had requested for good drives.

I will be with traveling with family, and one small kid - so the trip needs to be well planned.
Also, i gather that KMVN in Binsar is a better bet than Club Mahindra?
>> I have stayed in both the properties. KMVN has no doubt better location .. Club M has better location with excellent food and services (sometimes this is what you bet for with a small kid); but never faced any issues with KMVN too. They were best to their services too. Stay at GMVN if you want to experience a peaceful stay in a jungle.

If you dont get any jackpot luck there'll be cloudy and no snow.....land slide may be found after heavy rain.........but at that time generally it not rains heavy........most of all who can predict nature

as aarosh mentioned it.........in Haldwani, there'll lots of options.........even you can book car from Kathgodam........but dont forget to bargain..........if you care about your budget, forget to hire from Delhi.

wise realisation..........in my opinion staying at Mahindra isnt mean anyhow 'Binsar'.........its almost 25 km from the core area.........somebody may talk about there service & food, but I think you wont regret after staying at KMVN........well! there is no TV, but Mahindra have
.

Thanks for the advice, all. I have decided to bring forward the Kumaon trip to March now instead of May, given the advice that views will not be the best in May. The May trip will now be to Himachal (Sangla, Kinnaur) - will seek suggestions on that later.

I live in Mumbai, so this will have to be a Delhi-Delhi round trip over 10 days by car from Delhi. Want to do nainital-binsar(?)-kausani-chaukori-munisyari (probably need to drop 1 for 11 days, perhaps Binsar? - suggestions?).

Can anyone suggest an itinerary? Will be much obliged ...

Also, i checked trains - tickets to Kathgodam are not available on the dates i want/need. Have to option but to book an SUV (Tavera/Sumo types) from Delhi? Reliable? what are market rates per km fm Delhi?

I will be with wife and 2 (very restless) kids who are very finicky about food.

Hotels I am exploring:
Nainital - Alka or Chevron Fairhavens (?)
Kausani - Chevron Eco-lodge
Binsar, if i go - KMVN
Chaukori - Ojaswi (?)
Munsiyari - ???
If anyone feels these hotels are not good options, pls alert me ...

Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

the other alternative - given that i have only 10 days, and want this to be relaxed rather than dragging 2the kids out for hours - is to do Delhi- Corbett (2N) - Kausani (2n, driving thru Ranikhet - Nainital (3N)-back. Plus/minus 1/2 days.
What say?

sounds good

but you can cross through beautiful Ranikhet from Corbet to Kausani........next to Nainital, use the road to Almora.....the road is great by surroundings

thanks PKanti.

Feedback i am getting from colleagues, friends etc who have been to Nainital recently is that it tends to get exceptionally crowdy these days. Wondering now whether to go to Nainital at all. Any views?

I would lend to agree with sasanka. I suggest, stay at Naukuchiatal or at Bhimtal rather than staying at Nainital. KMVN TRH at Kausani is much better from the 'view' perspective albeit less luxurious. The Cottages are quite okay.

Don't miss Binsar. It is an experience in itself. I would suggest stay one night at Mahindra - the property is good, especially the log huts. Keep one night for the KMVN TRH, Binsar also. Remember this place has no light but the view from their terrace is just great.

Enjoy your trip !
