Hello Everyone,

I've been planning for a winter trek for quite some time. This year in December, we (6 of us) are planning to go on a winter trek. So we thought of Dodital or Chandrashila Summit. Recently I came to across Khuliya Top trek and I got interested on this. So, I have made a draft itinerary. Please review and post your suggestions and thoughts. Also, I do have some queries on this.

1. Day 1 (Saturday 23/12/17): Kolkata to Delhi via flight. Delhi to Kathgodam via Ranikhet Exp. (Overnight train)
2. Day 2 (Sunday 24/12/17): Kathgodam to Chaukori and Night stay at KMVN.
3. Day 3 (Monday 25/12/17): Chaukori to Munsiyari. Night stay at KMVN.
4. Day 4 (Tuesday 26/12/17): Trek from Munsyari to Bhujani. Night stay near (or at) KMVN-Bhujani.
5. Day 5 (Wednesday 27/12/17): Bhujani to Khuliya Top. Set camp and night stay.
6. Day 6 (Thursday 28/12/17): Back to Munsyari. Night stay.
7. Day 7 (Friday 29/12/17): Local sightseeing at Munsyari.
8. Day 8 (Saturday 30/12/17): Munsyari to Kathgodam and catch train.
9. Day 9 (Sunday 31/12/17): Delhi to Kolkata.

Queries:
1. What is the availablity of Shared Cars / Buses from Kathgodam to Munsiyari? It will be better if we reach in one day. I do want to skip Day #2 (staying at Chaukori). In this forum I found quite a few suggestions like taking a break between Kathgodam and Munsiyari as the distance is very long (which is true); Asking KMVN Munsiyari about any drivers who comes at (or near) Kathgodam and talk to them directly to book the car etc. The later seems convincing to me.

2. I had a small introductory discussion with someone at KMVN Munsyari (Person's name is Gourav). He said that he would book the guide for us (As we will be spending a night there). Will it be benificial that we ourselves should carry the tents and sleeping bags for us?

3. Is there any fooding options in the trail? Are we allowed to put on fire at the top (at Khuliya Top camp site)?

4. Is there any nearby treks (half day or maybe one) near to the same trail? Spending 8 days for only 2 days trek might be depressing to someone among us.

5. Suggestions on spending the night at the top.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Regards,
Aneek
Darjeeling
Kuari Pass Winter trek
Tawang-Dirang-Bomdila

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

Some random thoughts from me, please fit them in your queries if found suitable.
1. I went from Delhi via Haldwani and had a halt at bageshwar. Beautiful temples
2. I had a night halt at chaukori which had awesome views.
3. Did a day trip to patal Bhubaneswar the limestone caves
4. If you are referring to khaliya top it was a half day trip in summers.

Hi Rahul,
Yes, Khaliya / Khuliya, same. And yes, a half day trek but we want to spend a night on tents there at the top to capture night sky. Any suggestions on how to reach Kathgodam to Munsiyari in one day?

Regards,
Aneek

Brother I can't advise you wrt to camping but why do you want to rush from kathgodam to munsiyari. Your original plan is good enough if you ask me. Just see if you want to visit bageshwar or patal Bhubaneswar. Else enjoy chaukori

Hire a taxi, that is the only way, it will take about 10-12 hours if everything goes well. What is the hurry?
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

What is the point of staying at Bhujani while you are staying at the top the very next day ? Just go to the Khuliya Top and stay at the tent. You can also do away with the next day at Munsiyari after climbing down from Khuliya. You can utilise the days at places like Binsar etc.

Thanks Rahul, Jitu and Somnath.

First let me tell you, I've been to Binsar and Chaukori both. But yes, my team mates haven't been there. I've also seen Patal Bhubaneswar and I really liked it. I bet, my team mates will also enjoy that one. That will be one unique experience for them.

@Rahul: The plan was to manage one day. But you are correct. It will be very hectic if I want to reach Kathgodam to Munsiyari in one day.

@Somnath: Your suggestion makes sense. I don't have to spend one extra day at Bhujani. And thus we will reach Khuliya in one day and spend the night at tent.
On visiting other places than Munsiyari; I can surely move to different places but the problem is we have to depend on public transport. In 2015, I visited Nainital, Binsar, Chaukori (my honeymoon ) with a booked Zylo arranged by Anand Goswami. But this time I am going with my friends who prefers public transport mostly. So I was hoping to do more in Munsiyari. Based on this link: http://www.euttaranchal.com/tourism/...-munsiyari.php there are quite a few places that we can visit. What are your thoughts on this?

Regards,
Aneek
