With my wife, I am planning for a trek to Vasukital from Kedarnath on 29th May, 2017. I have few queries before I plan for the same. Any help is much appreciated.

1. Trekking difficulty. Is there a pathway or do we need to literally climb up the rocks ?
2. Temperature around that time.
3. Any trekking guide's contact number

Thanks in advance.

My friend shall be doing this on the 8th or 9th of May. So will update as I get information from him. I was also looking for some guide details, couldn't get any.

As for the path details, I am sure someone will come up with that answer.
Sar Pass Trek , Rohtang, Munnar, Badrinath Kedarnath, Vaishnodevi, Goa, VOF, Kedarkantha, Kuari Pass, Brahmatal Trek

Hello Shibalik,
I am planning the trip for June10th, so, to begin, I would love and update from you on your trip. Second, I have spoken to a few people who have either done the trek or have knowledge of the area. It seems like upto Tapovan is a easy/moderate hike. The trail is very popular and so, well marked for the most part, except where you have to scramble through loose debri for a little.

hello
its a 7 km trek from kedarnath to vasukital . its not a pavement trek like gaurikund to kedarnath. but it is moderate level trek. at some places way on climbing little rocks, but a person can go and come back on the same day.
usually temple priest visit there to collect bharam kamal in monsoon. you must carry your packed food there. you can see there small group of yaks and sheep staying there.
thanks

@Neeraj, thanks for your reply. It is surely informative. By any chance, do you have any contact number of any guides there?

Hello
No such professional guides are there at kedarnath, but you can find many people there who are treking to vasuki tal. I visited kedarnath thrice regularly last years but after natural disasters few persons trek to vasuki tal because a great land slide was there, still debris is on route. This year also going to kedarnath dham at May last week. Will try to trek vasuki tal this year.
Thanks

@ Neeraj, I am going to attempt going to Vasuki Tal in June ('17) and wanted to ask about the route from Tapovan to Vasuki Tal. Is it straight forward? I was told it is a glacial hike, so, does that mean I need to bring the crampons and ice axe (vs snowshoes)? Also, I was wondering about availability of water along the trek. I am planning to bring a water filter and jetboil (For freeze dried food), but, will there be running water along the way?

Vasuki tal update - My friends were not permitted to go to Vasuki tal by the authorities in view of heavy snow accumulation in the higher regions beyond Kedarnath.
They got a guide for the whole tour from Sonprayag. Don't have his contact number as yet. Shall post the same as I get it.

@Snotty, thanks for the update. As we are planning at the end of May, lets see what happens. The temperature is still between 8-10 degree at day time and going 2-3 degree at night. At least that is what google saying. So keeping our fingers crossed. And yes, please post the guide's number if possible.

Thanks

Did talk a couple of times to my friend. He couldn't go to Vasuki Tal as mentioned above, he couldn't go to Kartik Swamy temple as well as there were no share jeeps going. They were asking him to hire the entire vehicle, 3000/- charge to and fro. He declined.

He would be joining some trek from tomorrow.

He had two young fellows to help him. Was charged at 1000 Rs/day.

Abtar Rawat - 9410515403 and Suraj - 8755739705. Were supposed to take him to Vasuki tal, but as you know - were not allowed. He was happy with them.

Thanks a lot for the contacts, Snotty. I spoke with Avtar and he said that it is not possible to go to Vasukital before July as the road is completely covered with snow. Hard to get permission for the trek and may need proper camping gears and guides for that. But still no guarantee that anyone will get the permission soon enough. We are little disappointed as we planed to stay at Kedarnath one extra day just for Vasuki tal trek. But now we are planning for Gandhi Sarovar and any other places around. He also gave me the same charge, Rs 1000/- for a day. So I will contact him when I will be in Gaurikund and will plan for the next.

Just for other people, if any one is seeking the pony charges for this year,

From Gaurikund to Kedarnath - Rs. 1400/-
From Kedarnath to Gaurikund - Rs. 1100/-

All these charges are fixed and set by govt.

thanks for the info. I am planning a trip to Kedarnath this October with my family, and I was looking for day hikes around Kedarnath.

I read a blog and saw a few photos of Chorabari Taal (Gandhi Sarovar), but it has completely dried up. And from this post, it seems Vasuki taal is out of reach.
