I Actually used that route in October and the everything is Pakka now, the roads are good and still new road is being constructed at some places. Our driver took 5hrs flat for journey from uttarkashi to Dehradun.

My query is if one starts from Rishikesh he has to go to Dehradun then Mussoorie then ? till Uttarkashi. Is this road touches New Tehri?

NO it wont, there are two routes from mussourie which diverge after 10 kms at suwakhal.
(1) Route 1 that leads to dhanulati, chamba, New tehri or Uttarkashi.
(2) Route 2 that leads to chinyalisuar and uttarkashi. This is a new route and is shorter than route1.

And there is third route from rishikesh via chamba which is more common route to uttarkashi.

If you are at Rishikesh, then there is no point in going to Dehradun/Mussoorie to take the new road. Then you simply go straight up to Chamba and proceed as usual, that'll be shorter.

Thank you so much Dilliwala & ajay_uki for your posts. We are very much interested to see New Tehri as we have not seen it yet. Last time 2004, when we were coming back from Gangotri we could not see it. We were on Tehri (first halt) en-route to Gangotri way back in 1996 ( our first visit to Gangotri) and me and my wife a bit nostalgic to see new Tehri as our next plan is on that direction (Gangotri).

To get to NT you have to go via Chamba anyway. And to proceed to Gangotri thereafter you'll have to come back down to Chamba again.

Is it possible to reach Dharali after seeing that in same day?

It depends how early you start from Rishikesh. Early leaving then it will be possible. The road between Bhatwari and Dharali is very bad and its same between Dharasu band and Uttarkashi. These two stretches consume a lot of time. The route will be Rishikesh-Chamba-New Tehri-Chamba-Chiniyalisaur-Dharasu band-Uttarkashi-Dharali.

And you'll need your own car. By public transport it will be very difficult. To and from NT you will have to disembark at Chamba each time, and lose time looking for transport.

Thanks for your inputs. Yes, we will hire a car on this route from Rishikesh.

Happy new year 2012 to you and all my India Mike members.

Harsil and Dharali

Just came back from Harsil few days back. Looking at the accuweather predictions and the prevailing cloud conditions, it looks like the next 2 weeks are going to see frequent snow fall at Harsil. A good idea wd be to try going there around the 3rd week of January after confirming snow conditions from GMVN Uttarkashi. In fact such a trip would see Harsil in all its glory.

Dear Ajay,
Please provide some contacts about some stay options at Netala for family stay with kids during October 1st week & some picture about that place. Are apples available on trees during october 1st week?

I stayed a night at Netala all of 15 years ago. It was a nice little village then with a few small hotels. I guess it is more built up now. The hotel I stayed in was called Ganga Putra. I had checked out another next to it which was also decent, dashed if I can remember the name. Just google 'Netala hotels'.
