Hi guys! Have been trawling through page upon page of Uttarakhand threads, and have managed to use all of your info to put together a loose plan - let me know what you think? And apologies in advance for the million questions!

Firstly, we are booking return flights from Delhi to Pantnagar to save time - is this wise? It seems as though taxi or train is the most popular way to reach Uttarakhand from Delhi, is this due to flight cancellations etc?? :/

Anyway, here's the plan so far (again, very loose), and we will be hiring a driver for the entire duration. I'm also including acommodation that has taken my fancy, but suggestions are MORE than welcome:

23rd March: DEL - PGH flight - arrive PGH 11:00
23rd & 24th: stay in Nainital - Alka Hotel
24th: Kasar Devi - Mohans Binsar Retreat
25th: Binsar - KMVN
26th & 27th: Chaukori - Ojaswi Resort
28th & 29th: Munsyari - Milam Inn
30th: Kausani
31st: Ranikhet (want to play golf)

We must be back at Pantnagar airport in time for our 11:20 flight back to Delhi on the 4th April, so we have a couple of days to play with and extend stays in spots that we love.

I have a few additional questions also...

- I'm not a huge fan of long drives...is there anywhere that is worth stopping off at for a night between Munsyari and Kausani, or is it better to just deal with the drive and head straight to Kausani? Any other suggestions re: spots we should check out are more than welcome too!

- The night before our flight out of Pantnagar...is there anywhere fairly close to the airport that is worth spending a night at to save us from a super early and long drive that morning?

- Alcohol...what's the deal in Uttarakhand? From what I can gather, it's not really sold anywhere? I've read that we can bring up to 2 litres in from Delhi...is this advisable? And I'm assuming we should consume only in our rooms and keep hidden from any hosts or hotel staff so as not to offend?

- We would love to camp in a lovely, secluded spot somewhere with no other people in sight, but trekking may be out of the question due to health restrictions. Any ideas as to where we could do this?

- And now this feels like a silly question, but I've actually struggled to find info online...how is the visibility in March? Chances of clear skies and great views? Super keen on not only the peaks, but the stars also, and the milky way core!!! I've read that it can get very cold after dark, and days should be pleasant...is this accurate?

- During these travel dates, would I need to book accommodation in advance (particlarly Binsar KMVN?), or due to it being low season still, would we be okay just showing up?

Thanks once again for all the info you guys share - it has seriously been a huge help. Sorry for all the questions, and well done to anyone that has made it all the way through my rambling to the end

First, taking a flight to Pantnagar is pretty worthless endeavour in my view as you will have to do some road journey upto kathgodam anyway. It is much better to take a train to Kathgodam, or a taxi.

Now to your other queries.

1) You may try Vijaypur as a halt between Munsiyari-Kausani.

2) Alcohol is sold everywhere in Uttarakhand and you will easily get most Indian brands, and no need to be extra careful to hide it as most consume it themselves.

3) Avoid camping, but if you must, then any spot you like is ok, there are no official camping sites.

4) March is the best season, the very best for views and clear skies.

5) Showing up works most of the times if you are solo, but may be a problem in group. Moreover, for Binsar KMVN, it is best to book as that is the sole accommodation option.
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day
