Dear Imiker
We 3 friends, 55+ visiting Devprayag (via train) and reaching on 26 Jan from Kotdwar and returing via Haridwar on 28 Jan. Request your valuable suggestions:

(a) Any sight seeing or worth halting tourist/eating place on way from Kotdwar to Devprayag or Devprayag to Haridwar on return journey

(b) Short excursion from Devprayag which takes us to a view of snow laden mountains

(c) Suggestion on this route map (which is not a round trip) for local travel, travel agent, vehicle hiring as it looks (a) due to not being a round trip, hiring a vehicle for entire journey may be very expensive and (b) there is nothing much to be seen by vehicle in this short trip of 2 n/3 days and will cost unnecessarily for minimum. Is it better to hire from taxi stand locally at Kotdwar and Devprayag

(d) Any suggestion on kayaking, rafting with not so experienced people, are these activities risky or are there classes ? or any suggeston/precaution to increase the joy of the trip which is primarily to be with nature and with friends.

Thanking you in advance as always been benefitted by imikers' good and practical advice.

-> Not short but Surkhanda Devi can give you views of snow.

While going from Kotdwar, take a little detour and stay at Khirsu for snow views and nature walks. You will get the taxi from places you are going so no need to book for all days.

As to rafting, you can easily do it, just tell the operator that you do not wish to go through high category rapids and want to keep it easy, he or she will do the needful.
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

Feel obliged for your suggestions. If you have been to Dev prayag, please suggest what are worth seeing in this short visit without making it very hectic and maximum within distance of 25 km one way

It is more than 100 Km (additional) for detour to go to Khirsu as against 85 km. Hence seems difficult, despite being a great choice

You can stay at Lansdowne or khirsu.
I would strongly recommend for khirsu. a hidden
Jewel in form of small helmet. You will be good view
If weather is clear.
Considering 26,27,28 january is holiday.
Lansdowne will be very crowded by delhi public
And getting accommodation will be difficult and
Expensive

Thank you so much, we have got a suggestion that we get down at Najibabad (as we are travelling by train) at 4 am and reach by taxi to Lansdowne for a morning view (KMVN) before Delhi crowd hit the place, and go thereafter to dev prayag. NO intent to stay at Lansdown, we are already booked for 2 night at Devprayag. Any comments on this idea ?

2. Any special place to see/halt on way to rishikesh from Devprayag as our return journey is from that route.
