Hello Everyone,

I have made a plan to visit Gomukh/Tapovan by this mid October during puja holidays. After going through a lot of blogs and travelogues, I drew the itinerary and it goes like this

07-Oct-16[/FONT]: Delhi to Rishikesh/Dehradun
8-Oct-16: Rishikesh -Uttarkashi-Gangotri
9-Oct-16: Gangotri-Bhojbasa
10-Oct-16:Bhojbasa-Gomukh-Tapovan
11-Oct-16:Tapovan-Bhojbasa-Gangotri
12-Oct-16:Gangotri-Rishikesh/Dehradun-Delhi

The questions are:

1) Is the itinerary above really feasible?

2) Which is a better place to board a bus to Uttarkashi ? Depending on frequency of bus to Uttarkashi, I've to reach either Dehradun or Rishikesh

3) Where do we've to get the permit? Gangotri or in Uttarkashi?

4) How about the commutation from Uttarkashi to Gangotri? do we have to go in shared cab or any government transport facilities available?

5) How will be the weather in mid October? In my visit to Kedarnath during October 2015, I witnessed rainfall in Kedar valley. Should I anticipate rain? (Although this question can only be answered by nature)

6) If I'm planning for Tapovan, do we really require to hire a porter? If yes, what would be charges of porter in October (considering offseason)

Inputs will be highly appreciated.

Cheers

Even I am planning a trek till Vasukital on September end, this year. As per the informations I have gathered from other IMers and from my friends:

1) Your itinerary is definitely doable, but it's always better to take a day break in Gangotri before going further for sake of acclimatization.

2) From Haridwar take an early morning bus to Uttarkashi which takes 7-8 hours, the bus frequency is good in the morning, you get bus or shared cab from Uttarkashi based on time.

3) Both the places.

4) See point 2

5) Usually the sky will be clearer than any other season, perfect season for distant mountain view, but again as you have said nature always has last word to say.

6) Yes, hire a porter, there are multiple threads in IM already on Gangotri, Tapovan, go through those threads, you might get the contact details and rates.

Thanks a lot Mr. Banarjee. Your inputs are highly appreciated.

I hope to have no trouble with acclimatization as I just came back from a Ladakh trip. The only issue I have is regarding the crevasses in Tapovan

As you suggested I will go through the threads of IM regarding this. Most of the threads are posted years ago and the information can be obselete.

Anyway, thank you so much for your valuable information.

Cheers
