Hi,

I am going to Dalhousie at the end of this December for trekking. Well after that I want to go to Dehradun to visit my relative. Could you please tell me how can I reach directly, or possibly, from Dalhousie to Dehradun? I don't want to go to Delhi and would prefer alternative path. Please tell me all possible bus routes. Thanks in advance.

Ritesh

Dalhousie - Chandigarh - Dehradun

journey in Plane

You can also look for options via planes. I suppose Pathankot is near to Dalhousie & then you can reach Dehradun via Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ambala, Saharanpur or alternatively via Chandigarh, Nahan Paonta Sahib. first option can also be done via train (possible change at ambala, Then to Saharanpur & from Saharanpur to Dehradun by Bus/Shared Taxi)

All long routes. The shortest and least complicated is as per #2.

Thanks mates .

So it means that Dalhousie has direct bus service(I suppose it's Volvo or AC Deluxe) to Shimla. And same from Shimla to Dehradun. I have lots of time in early January and would not like to travel by plane as I want to enjoy the voyage.

Another option I have found that I leave for Amritsar from Dalhousie and catch the train from there. But this way, Shimla won't come and my journey might get cut short.

akshay, I'm not aware of the govt-owned bus cos. having deluxe services between anu of those places. Maybe private ones, you wud have to find out.
The train wud be a good option, however you don't need to go to Amritsar. There's one from Pathankot to Haridwar, from where you can easily get transport for Dehradun.

Is DD your final destination?

I have to meet a photographer in Dehradun and then we shall head to Mussoorie and then, may be, Valley of Flowers. Since I have relatives in DD, I'd like to stay there for a day or two as the photographer has to reach on 6th of Jan. Or I might spend my time in Shimla (2 days).

A very good option, coming from the west, is to get off at Saharanpur and catch a bus, easily saves a few hours.
BUT
You do know that VOF is inaccessible/closed in winter, don't you?
Apparently not.

No Way... I didn't know that. So can you tell where to head off in winter from Mussoorie?

And do you know I get snowfall in Dalhousie or Massoorie at that time?

Thanks mate.

There's a train option if you want to do the journey overnight, but you'd have to first get to Pathankot (70kms), then you'd have to get a bus for the 65kms from Saharanpur to Dehra Dun.

Train 3152 departs Pathankot daily at 22:20 and gets to Saharanpur at 06.10 (2A, 3A, SL.)

Train 4646 departs Chakki Bank (Pathankot) daily at 23.00 and gets to Saharanpur at 06.30 (2A, 3A, SL.)

Pathankot and Chakki Bank are different stations a few kms apart.

akshay, if you're lucky you'll get snow in both places, if unlucky, neither.
A good option is to head to Chakrata, which is the same altitude as Muss, so may or may not have snow. But from there you can go to Devban, 17 km away, where you're sure to find snow.
Warning: To Devban you have to use a kachcha forest road most of the way, so no guarantee you can drive thru, specially if the ground is already covered in snow.
I've seen snow by the roadside near Devban in early April even.

Train option suggested is the best one.

Bussing down will be a taxing journey. In case you wanna do it, come down to Banikhet, 7 km from Dalhousie and there is a direct bus of Himachal Roadways from Chamba to Haridwar. Not sure whether it goes via Dehradun or Saharanpur. Just check at the bus stand at Dalhousie. This is a night bus.
Three goodies for Indian roads-
Good horn, Good brake, Good luck!

Another train for others considering a similar journey to Haridwar or Rishikesh.

Train 4610 departs Chakki Bank daily at 20.30 and gets to Haridwar at 06:40 and Rishikesh at 08.00 (2A, 3A, SL.)
