Apparently, the Taj Mahal does not reflect Indian culture. No religious bias then chief minister?

Maybe it's been sold to a Florida theme park.

And, since Yogi was handpicked by Modi (and Shah), despite his antecedents, has there been any statement of disapproval from the Prime Minister?

(Me, I think the Taj is overhyped, but that is neither here nor there)

Did they also take a couple of snake charmers and baba ramdev along? If not, I bet the experience will not be half as good...Taj, snakes and baba complete the trinity, add a dash of elephant and you are set to roll.

What'd they need India's used stuff for? They have their own gold towers, snake oil salesmen and evangelicals, with a dash of militarism to roll 'em out.

Why would you sell an obvious draw? Better to add the less iconic sites to diversify the appeal in marketing. Besides which the administration in this area is typically corrupt & incompetent..

To be honest, I am scared of all divisive movements. Just leaving a huge tourist attraction out of a publication could be an honest mistake, an oversight...
The fact that the Chief Minister, a Hindu, had stated in the past that the Taj was not representative of India leads me to suppose the omission was deliberate.

Taj Mahal left out of an Indian tourism booklet...

There is a chance, just a chance, that it may not be an excuse after the event but... It is also just possibly true that this was not a general-publication tourist guide, but detailing new developments for a specific press conference.

Perhaps, just perhaps, we should not jump to conclusions... Like the BBC does. Even if they do fit in with character profiles of certain individuals.

How likely is it that a chief minister would get their fingers into a tourist guide? They do, or appoint the appropriate people to do, stuff like school text books.

I don't doubt that there are people who would like to sideline Muslim history and monuments; I've met one or two. But with something like the Taj, something else is involved: lots of money. They won't, I don't think, threaten that... Alternative route: promote the site and proclaim that it was originally a Hindu site. Yes, we have a thread on that argument.

Has anyone seen this booklet? Until someone has... Judgement reserved.

Then pull it down. This time they are in power at the centre so they'll first have the Archaeological Survey of India remove it from the list of protected monuments.

I don't think so. The BJP is not IS. And they have members/voters in the tourist trade.

But... last thing I heard (and before this governement) the place was sadly in need of TLC. It won't be a thing of beauty for ever it falls down, and it would be hard to blame that on just the current government.
