After pandal hopping for 4 days during Durga Puja, we set off for Benaras (Varanashi) on 21st night

Normally we stay at the heart of Varanasi when we go there. This time due to a sudden decision to go there, we booked hotel at Ashi Ghat (Hotel Anami Lodge). Photo taken from hotel.

Our plan was to visit Agoda during this vacation after reading KS & SKs post, but since my son did not get leave from his office we were forced us to cancel all tickets, booking etc. After seeing our sad faces he forced us to plan a short trip to Varanasi during his Puja vacation. We reached there at around 11: 00 am en-route Mughal Sarai.

Next morning we woke up and enjoyed every bit of the program at Ashi Ghat called Subha-e-Benaras. First Aarti followed by Classical song and then Yoga. We
were elated after seeing all this. We then took a boat ride on the Ganges. Cool breeze of the Ganges made our boat ride more exiting.

After the boat ride, we decided to head back to our hotel as we had planned a trip to Vindyachal & Chunnar Fort. We hired a car from the taxi stand in front of our hotel. The taxi charged us Rs 2000/- for this trip. We had our lunch while returning from Chunnar at a Dhaba. The food was delicious. After returning from there we relaxed at the hotel.

We again went to Ashi Ghat for the morning program followed by boat trip. We Checked out from the hotel at 12:00 noon for Benaras railway station. We had to break our journey at Patna Jn. to take Patna Shalimar Duronto. We reached Kolkata next morning.

Very nice! So now do you think it is better to stay in "the heart of Varanasi" or in Ashi Ghat? Morning puja and yoga sounds good, and I suppose it is quieter too?

[I am just starting to plan trip to Varanasi.]

Nice post. What they usually charge for a boat ride to cover all/most ghats?

We tried both. Normally they take Rs.100 for motorized boat (group) & Rs 150 for rowing boats (personal). If you wish to see all the ghats then motorized boats are the best option.
