Planning a trip to India for January 2013. I have 2 questions about Mathura

(A) Is there a left luggage room at Mathura Junction railway station?

(B) If taking a day trip from Agra to Mathura, would bus or train be the better option? Online schedules show a lot of trains (on the line to Delhi, I suppose), and it's about 1 hour between the 2 cities. What about buses?

Thanks in advance -- bob

Agra is not a nice place as such, inspite of the Taj being there; it is an ugly place and you are hassled a lot by touts. It would be better to make a day-trip from Mathura or even Vrindavan to Agra. Vrindavan which is 10 kms (6 miles) from Mathura gives a nice introduction to the heart of Hindu devotion, with all its beautifully kept temples and altars.

If you'd like a truly aesthetic experience at a relatively small, but old and highly revered temple, spend an evening at Radha-Raman Mandir in Vrindavan. See an appreciation of a recent visitor here.

There are plenty of buses between the places. Personally I would always prefer trains if I have to travel public. But actually I would recommend to go by car, if that's within your budget. A car brings you right to the spots you want to go, waits to pick you up and bring you back.

The Mathura station is rather small. I don't know whether it has a cloak-room.

When in Mathura, don't miss a visit at the local Museum. It has some really beautiful and valuable sculptures.
