Hi,

I didn't see a thread about the 2013 Kumbh Mela in Allahabad.

This thread is for discussing the event.

Excellent to see this thread appear. I am thinking of attending the 2013 Mela, having missed the ones in 2001 and 1989. Not sure if I would really enjoy the 2025 one {;o)

Whoops, meant to say,

Does anyone know any good accomodations? I found this camp, but the prices are a little high for us:

Thanks PKanti

I have a question that anyone can help me solve: is it important to be at the kumbh mela on the most important bathing date? the reason I ask is because we're scared of the crowd size on that day, but don't want to miss out on the most important time of the festival. Thank you in advance for any help.

The kumbha snana (Snana means holy bathing) period would start on Paush Purnima, Sunday, 27-January-2013 and would continue till Maghi Purnima on Monday, 25-February-2013.

All the days are counted as auspicious days and you may have snana on any of these days, but the mentioned dates are considered more auspicious than others.

I'm a Kumbh Mela visitor since 2001. My first Kumbh Mela was at Allahabad. After that I never missed any of the Melas.

Next year, my elder brother will be performing some rituals for a whole month at Kumbh Mela. I'll meet him there in between the Mela.
He will be staying with the Sadhu's of his Ashram. He will make accommodation for me at their camp.

My first Kumbh Mela experience what amazing...
We didn't book any accommodation but could manage to get some place to sleep with the Naga Sadhus in the Mela...They really treated us well...

A friend and I are attending the 2013 Mela (our first) and would appreciate any discussion regarding the mela - logistics, expectations, complexities, signs and wonders! Thanks in advance for sharing your expereince.
