Hi,

May I know what time will the buses from Gorakhpur to Kushinagar ends everyday ?
I should be arriving from Lucknow by long distance bus. Where do I catch bus the Kushinagar ?
I understand the trip takes 1.5 hours and I can tell the driver that I want to get down before reaching town. I wish to get down at the Monasteries area.
Hiring a car with driver to to much for me.
If I missed the last bus, what is the next cheapest option ?

Thank you.

As far as I remember the bus leaves near the main station at Gorakhpur. I took it once, and I don't remember to go far from the station to catch it. It was a local bus that stops "everywhere", so I suppose that it would run quite late also.

It is a bit tricky to advise regarding that, considering the safety issues in rural India. Should it get really late for you, you'd better stay in Gorakhpur and take a very early bus next day, for safety reasons. Before Kushinagar town, the bus would stop at a junction, where the road leads to the temple area. From there it is about a kilometer to some bigger temples. The first ones to your left are Chinese or Taiwanese temples (not sure now which). They have nice guesthouse facilities. If full, which could be the case if you arrive very late, there is a Tibetan temple guesthouse further down the road (the road makes a 90 degree bend to the left); rooms are nice but a little costly considering it is a temple; they were Rs 6-700 a few years back, so I'd expect them to be higher now.

Kushinara can easily be visited on a day trip, so you would not lose that much if you stayed in Gorakhpur for the night. (Decent places near the Railway station, opposite main entrance, prices around Rs 600).

Thank you.
I arrived Gorakhpur at 3.30 pm and caught the 4 pm bus arrived Kushinagar at 6 pm.
I stayed 2 nights in the Linh Son, a Vietnamese-Chinese temple(the one you mentioned) since I can have the whole room to myself.
The Tibetan one is actually cheaper if 2 people are staying(600 a double, 700 triple, 800 quartet)
Their rooms, all ensuite and bathroom are much better but mattresses are mostly foam type.
The Vietnamese Chinese monastery rooms are 400 per bed in a triple room and 2 rooms share a bathroon/toilet, but the location and mattress is better.
