Hi Everyone! I'm currently residing in Lucknow (originally from US). I rarely see any other foreigners as compared to other cities in India. Any foreigners spending any time in Lucknow between now and Feb??

Hi Jessica

I'm from the US as well and will soon be moving to Lucknow. I was last there in November 2013, sorry I just saw your post. I will be there again in mid-February for my wedding ceremony - my wife is from Lucknow. I'll then be moving to Lucknow in April.

Would love to make contact with other expats in the area.

As a visitor, I loved that I only saw two other foreigners in almost a week in Lucknow! It's not on the tourist trail and I found people to be very outgoing and hospitable.

I visit Lucknow every time I'm in India, this however is the one time I won't be going it's just to cold at this time of year. Such a shame would've been nice to meet you. You're very lucky living there it's a wonderful city my absolute favourite. Have you had time to explore chowk yet? It's a lovely area. Lucknabis are great people So I'm sure you'll make lots of friends.

Congratulations nickjsaunders on the upcoming wedding ceremony!!

I had my wedding in Lucknow in 2010. I'm in Lucknow regularly so perhaps we'll get the chance to meet up sometime.

I'm sure you'll be busy in Feb with the wedding and all, and that's right around the time we will be leaving, so I'm not sure we'll get the chance to meet up this time. But, like I said we're there all the time so hopefully something will work out.

Over the last four years I've been in Lucknow for approx. 22 months and it's a rare occasion to seen another foreigner. (Part of the reason for starting this thread). But what you say is true... everyone I have met here has been wonderfully hospitable, for the most part.

Chowk is a nice area, although I have a personal preference for "new lucknow" as opposed to "old lucknow". But sometimes it's just the best place to find what is needed, whatever it may be.

And I don't blame you for not coming at this time of the year. Even if temps are 60F it feels super cold! and that's coming from someone who is used to winters in the NE in the US.

faizajool, you should probably arrange to meet Jess Ica by private message (PM), but Indiamike only allows you to use that facility when you have made 10 posts and have been a member for ten days. So please browse the forums and see if there are other posts that you could contribute a comment to, and if you have 10 posts, then tomorrow or the next day you'll be able to PM Jess Ica.

Neither of you should post your real-world contact info on a public thread like this one, please.

Hi all,

As a family (me, wife, and our 13 year old daughter) we absolutely love India. We've done a fair amount of travelling there, and I'm now looking for new places to go.

Having read this thread I'm guessing I know what you will all say, but is it worth our while coming to Lucknow? We love the cultural and historical side of travelling, and we also like just chilling, eating and people-watching. The absence of other Westerners is a postive!

We got back from our last trip at the end of December, and in a moment of madness I'm thinking of maybe taking us back in March - I assume this will be good weatherwise for a few days in Lucknow.

Thanks for any wisdom you choose to share. Always appreciated!

All the best, G

Honestly, despite living here I haven't really done much of the touristy things, so I won't be of much help with recommendations. If you are looking for the traditional market experience I would suggest checking out Aminabad (but it seems impossible to get a fair price there as a foreigner, I've had much better luck in Hazratgunj).

Also, I've never been here in March, but I hear that is when the weather starts to warm back up. Right now it is quite chilly!

In fact i reckon the great Lucknow market where all those things you appear to enjoy are present, is one of the great throbbing into the evening old style bazaars.. and old Lucknow is polite and you will be the only foreigners visible. Plus all the historical stuff and nonsense adds up to, well i like it once in a while and seeing as the wife's family is half Lucknavi

Yes in fact I'll be in Lucknow a short time before and after the wedding as we're going on a trip with my family over from the states. Didn't want them to make long trip over and just see one place in India.

But I'm glad I found this thread! Glad to see a bit of activity from this forum in Lucknow.

Thanks Jessica, leaving in one week! Excited for a new chapter. Less excited for the 41 degree weather I will land into!
