Cancelling a long tour programme in Maoist area, we settled this time for a short tour in Deogarh and Varanasi.
6.9.14 -- We started our journey on 6th september morning. Our train was Howrah- Dhanbad Double Decker Express-- one of the most glamorous and eastern India's only double decker train. It started right on time at 8.35 am. We got our seats in Upper deck, though one can roam in upper, lower and middle deck. Nice experience. Seating arrangements and cleanliness was superb also. We reached Asansol at 11.21 am, on right time. From there our next train was Tata Super( Tatanagar-Danapur Ex). Though we have got our reservation in only Chair Car compartment, but the train is very sub-standard. We reached Jasidih station at about 2.45 pm. After a quick lunch in a hotel in station premises we took an Auto Rikshaw to Tower chawk, Deogarh (Rs 70). But as per my NET- knowledge we disappointed because the hotels are either expensive or not upto the mark, also the area is not in walking distance from main mandir of Baidyanath dham. So we decided to took a Rikshaw and went near to mandir area. We got an excellent accomodation in Ojha Nibas (new hotel- only lodging @ Rs 550/night). In evening we roamed there, got Porchi (entry pass for Baba mandir), had some shopping ( Peda etc).

7.9.14 -- Next morning we went to entry gate of baba mandir (as we were told last night), but there was a long queue. We were disappionted standing behind the l-o-n-g queue at 4.00 am---- anxious at entry gate at 6.00 am---- show anger at Mandir premises at 7.00 am--- but all the emotions thrown away when we poured water over shiv-linga at 8.00 am and very much satisfied. We also visited Parbati mata mandir, Hanuman mandir, Bhairab mandir etc.
Then after breakfast we went out for sight seeing tour. Auto driver was ready (subodh- young gentle man). We started at 10.00am. Our first destination was Satsang ashram (Anukul chandra ashram)-- a calm cold atmosphere where all excitements go away but its not our time for meditation-- so we quickly came out for our next spot-- Nabadurga mandir.
Next we went to Naulakha Temple. In that compound there are Mohan mandir, Balananda Brahmachari ashram, Narmada Kund. Naulakha mandir is an eye-soothing architecture. After that we went to Jagabandhu ashram-- a big statue of Natraj--Shiv ji is there. From there we went to Tapoban-- we reached the top and came down with help of a guide (fee Rs 50, guide is must, otherwise very difficult to come down specially for ladies and aged persons).
Now we were ready for most exciting part-- Trikut pahar--it is 19 km from Deogarh. But the Ropeway ride (To and fro Rs 100/-) is very exciting. While coming back we had our lunch at Ma Durga restaurant. Lastly we visited Nandan Pahar-- a must visit place, specially for children. My little son very much satisfied with different items, specially Toy train ride (Rs 10/head). Each item has separate entry tickets (Park entry fee Rs 5/head).
We came back to our hotel at 4.30 pm after a hectic schedule. After taking rest for few hours and after dinner we checked out from our hotel at 10.00 pm for Jasidih station. Our train was at 11.30 pm- Amritsar mail (was 40 minutes late).

Deogarh- Varanasi trip 2014

8.9.14 -- Next morning we reached Varanasi Jn at 10.00 am and from there via Rikshaw (Rs 50) to Godalia Chowk -- main market area. Our hotel was pre-booked -- Lara India -- location wise very nice, only 5 minutes from Baba Biswanath temple and Dasashwamedh Ghat. As the time was limited after freshened we went out for lunch and shopping thereafter. My better half roamed there and had a good Puja marketing -- Clothings (mainly Chikon), Peda, Wooden show-pieces, Pan masala etc.
At about 4 pm we were at Dasashwamedh Ghat for Boat-ride. We got a motor boat (Rs 100/ head) roaming from Harishchandra ghat to Manikarnika ghat and back to Dasashwamedh ghat. As the water level of Ganga was very high at that time we opted for motor boat. We visited Gouri-Kedareswar temple at Kedar ghat (requested to our boat man) --linga is hump-like, like Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. Watched Evening Arati at Dasashwamedh ghat from boat --- that was a Fool-Moon evening.

9.9.14 -- Next morning we went out for Baba Biswanath Mandir at 4.00 am. Took Puja thali and standing behind a very small queue. Poured milk on Shiv ji and touched the Linga-- those was very satisfying moments of our life. The temple is also called Golden temple of Kashi, as the top of the temple is coated with Gold. Came back hotel within 45 minutes.
At 8.00 am after breakfast we were ready for Day-tour, hotel Manager Mr Sharma (very gentle person) arranged an Indigo car for us (later we realised Auto is better in small lanes of Kashi). We started from Kal-Bhairab temple, whose sight is must for completion of Kashi-yatra, next Maha Mrityunjoy mahadeb temple.
According to Hindu mythology, Puran Kashi-khand -- Kashi is located on Trishul of Bhagwan Mahadeb -- and the tripods of Trishul are
3. Kedareswar temple (visited last afternoon),
2. Kashi Biswanath temple (visited that morning),
1. Omkareswar temple ---- this was one of the most important part of our tour. There are 3 temples "Aa" kareswar, "Oo" kareswar and "Ma" kareswar in nearby area, these are at Machhodari. We got a heavenly satisfaction after pouring water and touching all these shiv lingas.
Our next destination was in southern part of Varanasi -- Durga mandir, Tulsi Manas mandir, Sankat Mochan mandir, New Biswanath temple (Birla temple) at BHU -- all are big architecture and equally crowded. Next we went to Ramnagar, crossing the river-bridge, to see Ramnagar Fort and Vyas Kashi temple. Ticket Rs 20/head. There is a museum in Fort and Shiv linga in temple beside river Ganga.
We returned to our hotel at 1.30 pm. After lunch (Jalajog is a good bengali hotel for lunch) we had a few hours for rest, in hotel. After checking out from hotel we tasted Thandai (special Benarasi milk shake, Rs 45) and Rabri (Rs 300/Kg). We took a Rikshaw at Godalia chowk (Rs 50) and came to Varanasi Jn Rail station for our return journey by Bibhuti Express (at 6.00 pm).

A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.
