Hi Folks,
As a European, I tend to use one of the major hotel booking websites, but am aware that some smaller Indian hotels may not all be covered.
I wonder if anyone can recommend a reliable booking website that covers India well?
I use Cleartrip for my train bookings, so that would be one possibility.

Conversley, lots of bad publicity over any site would be handy to know about too!

Any thoughts?

Edwin.

This is one area (I have looked often) where obscure websites do not have a vetting process at best, and dubious at worst.

A distant relative, who owned a decent hotel in Juhu, once said - 15% commission for running a web search presentation engine (which is what OTAs) are, not a win for hotels who have average occupancy of 90% or higher.

In India, low end hotels make no effort to enlist with OTAs (Online TA)

For many countries (not India ofcourse ) I use metasearch search engines like trivago or hotelscombined.

I saw some negative reviews about "make my trip", that was what prompted me to look for alternatives, and for feedback, good and bad...

Have you used the site yourself?

I typically use booking.com for hotels in US / Europe. Haven't tried it for India, though. You may want to try agoda.com, which is a Priceline owned site that's focusing on the Asia market.
It's always darkest before it goes completely black.

Trivago works for indian hotels as well - but for suggestions I always look at tripadvisor. Best and genuine reviews.

oyorooms.com also offers good options. But they do not provide names of properties until you book it.

We personally prefer booking.com for hotel bookings in India.

Hi Edwin,
I always use Cleartrip and haven't had any problems, occasionally I have booked through booking.com but most times the prices quoted on this site don't include taxes which need to be paid directly to the hotel. The only site we had problems with was Stayzilla which I believe is no longer in operation. Sometimes we have contacted hotels by email and made a reservation that way but not all hotels have a website or an email address.
Regards
Gokarna

We used makemytrip but always paid in cash so had no problem using them. Used card only for pulling out money from ATM.
