I with my wife wish to visit the Allahabad Kumbh Mela to be held during January and February 2019. I need suggestion on whether to stay in hotel and visit the Mela site or stay in a camp near the Mela ground. Also how many days stay will be sufficient to get good experience of the Kumbh Mela.

It would be better if you stay in a camp. It will give a better experience.

Allahabad Kumbh Mela 2019

Thanks Mr.Prakant,
I also thought likewise but I find from various sites that the good camp charges per night are very high even for normal days and for Sahi bathing dates they are sky high. I don't know if the organisers have only wealthy foreigners in mind or not. Of course visiting Kumbh Mela is not a regular affair so why not go for good camps for once. Any suggestion.

Those are commercial arrangements. You will find a lot of accommodations at cheaper rates. Else, you may stay in any baba's camp. They will happily accommodate you.

In the Mela area all the babas set up their camps (deras). You may visit anyone of them and contact the camp manager.

My wife and i are contemplating going to the Kumbh. We have never been before to one. Are the camps clean and with basic facilities? We do like clean sheets and toilets. How about safety?
I read somewhere that all (motorised) vehicles are not allowed on certain days. So what transportation from Airport to these sites?

Any advise on the camp selection. Budget may not be a constraint, though we do like to get a deal.

Yes, the camps remain clean, and the devotees keep visiting them for stay. We generally select Ashram camps randomly and we have found them okay... It would be appreciated if you could donate some amount before leaving.

The amount so collected are spent on langars (free kitchrns).

You will also have option to book paid accommodation run by government agencies.

The cab carrying you to Mela area will drop you at the entrance of the Mela. You will have to walk inside the area. It would be better if you carry light weight so as it would be easier while walking...

nearest station and security of belongings

I plan to visit Kumbh in feb, as per Prakaant’s advice I will search a staying place in the mela itself.

Can someone please tell me which station to get down, the official site list so many stations-- Allahabad Chheoki (ACOI)Naini Junction (NYN) Allahabad Junction (ALD) Phaphamau Junction (PFM) Subedarganj (SFG)Allahabad City (ALY)Daraganj (DRGJ)Jhusi (JI)Prayag Ghat (PYG)Prayag Junction (PRG)

Second what about the security of belongings when one goes for a dip
May all beings be happy, May all be healthy, May people have the well-being of all{humans & animals} in mind, May no body suffer in any way.

Where to stay during visit to Kumbh? Guest house or hotel?

I will be there 8-9-10.Feb.

Is it better to stay at a guesthouse (Rs 3000 per day, with breakfast, with the Mishra family) or a hotel (Hotel Ganga, Rs 4,700, breakfast included)?

Not only because of the cost difference, I usually prefer a guest house. One reason is, the hotel is not a 5* hotel. So I feel the cost difference is not worth the minimal extra comfort the hotel provides.

Are there health precautions to take BEFORE getting there (I live in Germany)?
