Hi,
I am an Indian but I haven't been living in India for the past 15 years. I am planning to do a road trip in a car covering Tamilnadu and Kerala for 10 days in June. Your suggestion on a suitable itinerary is appreciated. Also, please advise me on the safety tips and hotels (if possible).

Cheers
Prem

You may want to look at 'similar threads' below and form a rough itinerary and post it here- others can help refine that. Without knowing your interests and any places in the south you've been to it's very hard to give meaningful suggestions as such.

Itinerary

I am not into any sort of adventures. Just would like to go for a relaxed trip and see the country side. I m going on my own and so not really fuzzy about hotels. I like to see historical places and common places discussed in the travel forums.

Day 1:
Leave Chennai and reach Pondicherry. One night stay and explore the places.

Day 2:
Leave for Thanjavur and spend a night.

Day 3:
Leave for Rameshwaram, Dhanudhkodi and spend a night.

Day 4:
Leave for Madurai and spend a night.

Day 5:
Leave for Coimbatore and spend a night.

Day 6:
Leave for Alleppey and spend two nights.

Day 8:
Leave for Ooty and spend two nights.

Day 10:
Leave for Chennai.

Unless you have a special reason to visit Coimbatore I should skip it.
Go direct from Madurai to Alleppey and spend the extra day in the Cauvery region around Thanjavur.

Many thanks guys! Do you have any recommended hotels in Ooty for a single person (neat and tidy)? I m looking for a place which is closer to the nearby food outlets.

How do you plan to move from place to place? If its not by a dedicated car, some of the connections can be tricky. I havent been to Kerala in nearly a decade now but from what I recall you needed own transport to visit the backwaters (boat pick up point).

Also, distance wise, Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi is quite far from the Tanjore area. I think it requires another day to do justice to the place.

Thanks Vaibhav. I am planning to rent a car from Chennai and drive on my own. Currently, looking on the websites regarding accomodation. Thanks for your tip about the road distance. I will take that into consideration. Any suggestions regarding accomodation will be helpful.
