Dear Experts ,
I am planning for a trip in and around Hilly terrains of Tamilnadu , Kerala and Karnataka . I am keen to explore and enjoy the beautiful nature rather than the any touristy place. I need your help in this regard. I have made a itenary which I am posting here for your referrnce. I am ready to accept any sort of suggestion . I am posting my queries at the end of itenary.

Team : Myself , Wife and Daughter

2. Whether Day 3 is doable ?
3. Whether Day 4 is doable ? May I include or should I exclude any place ?

1. Schedule is very hectic - you will need a cab throughout.
2. Plan to be on time for the 6.30AM safari at Bandipur. You may not get to visit Mudumalai wild life sanctuary as the timings are Morning: 06.30 AM to 09.00 AM Evening: 03.30 PM to 06.00 PM. If you wait to do the evening, you will have to skip Doddabetta and you will miss the scenic uphill route to Ooty. I am not aware of driving restrictions in your selected route for this day - someone else with first hand knowledge can help.
3. No idea on day 4
4. No idea
5. If you are on a tight budget consider Hotel Tamilnadu (Youth hostel on Botanical Garden road). May not be spotless clean or super fast service, but acceptable Family room 4 beds around 1500.

Considering your Tour dates, My general suggestions :

1) Due to Drought and Summer weather, there might be forest fires / WLS closure especially in Mudumalai NP and Nagarahole . As of now we cant predict but once you are nearer to your travel dates, you may want to check on this and alter your plans accordingly.
2) Ooty is best when you include the toy train journey between ooty/Coonoor and Mettupalaiyam and when compared to ooty , Coorg and Wayanad would be more virgin
3) Many of the wayanad's tourist places need considerable walk and please plan as with your kid it might be difficult . As far as I remember, with a kid only "pookot lake boating" and " thamaraserry ghat view point" are the ones you could do it with ease and yes "Chembara peak" view point is possible.

My comments inline in your itenary below:

Day1- Bangalore Airport (8.20 am) – Mysore (1 pm)
After Lunch : Mysore Palace , Chamunda Temple (if time permits ) , stroll around market area

Have Mysore palace Or Chamundi Temple For this day. Mysore palace exploration needs lengthy walk . Probably 2 - 5 palace and in the evenings, URS Road (Main market area/ downtown of mysore) . Forgot the shop name but there is one famous bengali sweet shop in this road where you can try out.

Day2 - Mysore – Shivasamudram – Talakad – Somnathpura – Ranganatithu – Mysore Evening : Mysore Palace (illuminated view )

As of now , monsoon was a total failure in karnataka and next monsoon rains are around may last week. Hence check nearer to your travel dates and include Shivasamaudra Falls (gaganachukki falls and barachukki falls) based on the situation. Probably it might be dry when you visit. Talakkad & somanathpur are good choices . Again, Ranganathittu (Check and proceed based on the birds availability -- This will be too good in June - August timeframe).
Mysore palace (illuminated view) is from outside ONLY and once you are done , proceed to chamundi hills on this day. Night time is the best and you will see mysore vity night view at its best from chamundi hills between 6 - 8 pm.
If you include Ranganathittu Bird sanctuary, include the other tourist spots of Srirangapatna especially triveni sangama (Auspicious) , Tippus palace and Srirangapatna Temple.

Day3 – Mysore (early morning) – Gundalpet- Bandipore Tiger Reserve ( morning Safari) – Madhumalai – Theppakadu – Masinagudi – Ooty – Dodabeta Peak (if time permits) – Coonoor.

Choose one among Bandipur / Mudumalai and my suggestion would be Bandipur NP . Also include "Gopalaswamy betta/Hills" which is just after Gundlupet and it will be stunning around 6.30 am.

For this day doable plan is
Mysore-Gundlupet-Gopalaswamy betta-Bandipur NP Safari-Ooty - REST - Stroll in Charring cross (MG Road/Downtown of ooty)

Day4- Coonoor – Manjoor- Kundah – Korakundah Tea Factory – Avalanche Lake – Nanjanagad – Ooty

Stay at Ooty rather than coonoor. Coonoors tourist places are limited and the weather was bit better in ooty.
I travelled all across Nilgiris district and based on my travel experiences,My suggestion is , Explore OOty's standard tourist places on this day . Tea Factory , Ooty lake boating + horse riding , Rose garden, Tree garden, Doddabetta View point.
Kundah just has the power plant (No visit possible) and Avalanche lake/ Emerald lake is SEASONAL (you could include those two after checking locally). Manjoor,Nanjanad are just enroute places with nothing to see as such .

Also From Kundah to Ooty there will be STEEEEP and SHARP uphill roads (If i remember correctly around 30 hairpin bends) which might be uncomfortable as such .

If you are interested in off-beat places, for this day Just include Avalanche and Emerald lakes if at all if it has water. Both are just 1 km apart .

Day5- Ooty – Welnock Downs – Pykara Lake – Glenmorgan Dam Reservoir – Gudalur – Muthunga WLS (evening Safari ) - Kalpetta

Bandipur,Mudumalai,Nagarahole, Muthanga,Tholpetty all are almost same forest range distanced by few kms. I did visited all of those and My preferential order would be Nagarahole NP - Bandipur NP- Muthanga - Tholpettty- Mudumalai NP. Out of all of this , Tholpetty is the one which has LEAST Crowd and Mudumalai NP is one with MAXIMUM crowd (Every ooty local package includes mudumalai NP visit and hence the overcrowding). So if you are too keen on wildlife safari, yes you can include Muthunga WLS also . Remember your cab can't enter Muthanga WLS and you need to hire Jeep for the safari (Jeep will be available just in the entrance of WLS) .

Day6 – Kalpeta – Meppady – Soochipara – Sunrise Valley – Phookot Lake – Banasurasagar Dam – Kalpeta

Soochipara waterfalls is Seasonal and it needs close to 2 km walk (To &Fro) . Pookot lake is the BEST with kid and plan accordingly as 12- 2 Boating is OFF for lunch .

Based on your itenary, I am suggesting a sample itenary which includes a mix of all you are interested . Have a look and alter as per your comfort/taste.

Sample Itenary

Day 1 :

Bangalore Airport-Mysore. Mysore Palace (2-5) , URS road stroll / Brindavan Gardens ( plan between 6 - 8 pm)

Day 2:

Mysore-Shrirangapatna (Explore local tourist places)- Somanathpura temple-Talakadu - Chamundi hills (In the evening)

Day 3:
Mysore-Gopalaswamy hills-Bandipur NP-ooty.

Day 4:

Ooty local tourist places

Day 5:

ooty- Pine forest/Cinema shooting spot- Pykara lake / Dam -Kalpetta. 3- 5 pm Pookoot lake , Thamaraserry ghats View point (5.30 - 6 pm).

Day 6:
Wayanad's tourist places (soochipara waterfalls, banasura dam, Kuruwadweep Island)

Day 7:
Kalpetta-Thirunelli temple- Nagarahole NP safari (if you are interested)-Iruppu Falls (Coorg)- Madikeri. REST. Abbey falls (2 km to & fro walk in plantations) .Evening (5-7) in Raja seat.

Day 8:

Madikeri-Cauveri Nisagadhama-Bylekuppe(2nd largest Tibetan population in india next to Dharamshala) and the whole Village will be so different and the Stupa is really worth a visit and you get authentic tibetan restaurants here - Mysore

Day 9:

Mysore-Shravananabelagola (plan between 6 - 9 am) .Its a steep walk on Rocky hilly terrain (With proper steps and Doli service is available for those who need a lift) The hills get pretty hot around 10 am which makes it difficult to climb- Halebeedu-Belur. Plan a stay at belur or halebeedu. Somanathpura/Belur/Halabeedu has same architecture BUT Belur & halabeedu are the best and bigger ones.

Day 10:

Belur/Halebeeedu to Bangalore Airport

Overall the plan is bit hectic and if at all you feel it's so rushing, you may ignore Ooty OR Coorg part .

As per me, Day 1,2,3(Gopalaswamy hills and Bandipur NP),6,7,9 are MUST-TO-DO.

Please feel free to post if you need more info.

Happy planning .

Thanks velu for this minutest details and guidance. It is indeed fabulous.

1) Due to Drought and Summer weather ..........

I will obviously keep a close track on it.

2) ......when compared to ooty , Coorg and Wayanad would be more virgin.

Your point is very much clear .

Day 1 :
Bangalore Airport-Mysore. Mysore Palace (2-5) , URS road stroll / Brindavan Gardens ( plan between 6 - 8 pm)

Day 2:
Mysore-Shrirangapatna (Explore local tourist places)- Somanathpura temple-Talakadu - Chamundi hills (In the evening)

Excellent . I will follow in toto.

Day 3:
Mysore-Gopalaswamy hills-Bandipur NP-ooty.

If I reach Ooty in time , is it possible to visit Botanical Garden on that day itself ?

Day 4:
Is it possible to cover Avalanche Lake , Emerald Lake and Upper Bhavani Lake on that day ?

Day 5:
ooty- Pine forest/Cinema shooting spot- Pykara lake / Dam -Kalpetta. 3- 5 pm Pookoot lake , Thamaraserry ghats View point (5.30 - 6 pm).

I will follow in toto . Thanks for suggestions about timing.

Day 6 , Day 7 , Day 8 :

Will try to follow your itenary and will try to concentrate on Wayanad and Nagarhole NP.

Please suggest me about ,
1) good Kalpetta hotel and staying option in/around Nagarhole .
2) good travel agency to book cab for the whole trip .

Thanks.

We visited Wayanad in 2011, our hotel in Kalpetta was Green Mount Cottage.
We were very satisfied with them and the knew a good driver to show us around.

@OP,

Day 3:

Yes, you can include Botanical garden for the day.

Day 4:

Avalanche/Emerald & Upperbhavani will make a full day trip. Still If it's first time in ooty for you , My suggestion is to stick on to the standard tourist places and if possible, Reserve one way train journey in First Class (For best 360 degree views) between Ooty/Coonoor to Mettupalaiyam (5 Hours journey) but it's really worthwhile. You can very well get back to ooty in bus from Mettupalaiyam (1 to 1.5 Hour Max) and bus frequency is tooo good.

Sorry, I do not have any specific recommendations on hotel Or Cab but Location preference is as follows.

For Nagarahole NP , Stay in Kutta (if you are OK with plantation stays) Or Iruppu Falls Area (homestays) and from both these places , Nagarahole NP is just 10 minutes drive. Kutta/Iruppu Falls (South Coorg) is Full of coffee estates and you will be greeted by Kilometres of coffee plantations and be aware Kutta / Iruppu Falls are very small towns with limited facilities BUT definitely worth , quiet and Most beautiful. IF you are averse to Dead calm place, you could stay in kalpetta / Mananthavady(Wayanad) Itself for the night and proceed to Nagarahole NP for the morning safari (1 to 2 hour drive)

In Wayanad, Kalpetta (Main town and closer to Chembara peak view point, Soochipara waterfalls, Pookoot lake boating, Thamaraserry Ghat view point ), Mananthavady (Closer to Tholpetty WLS, Thurunelli temple and Nagarahole NP, Iruppu Falls ) and Sulthan Bathery (Closer to Muthanga WLS) are the main towns and My suggestion is : Stay in Kalpetta (As Most of the tourist places are closer to this town ) and Anyways all these 3 towns are separated by 20-25 kms only in different directions.

Feel free to post if you need more info.

Happy Planning !

Velu
