Hi,

We are planning a trip to the lesser visited places in the Nilgiris.

I have been upto Emerald before and this time want to go further.

So, I have a few questions:

1. Emerald does not need any permissions. What about Avalanche, Upper Bhavani, Parsons valley? Where to get them from?

2. How about accomodation options? IF they are only PWD/Forest rest house accomodations, where to get permission?

3 Lastly, if no accomodation, is it safe to camp? Say,by Avalanche or Emerald lake? Is it considered legal by the forest department w/o permission or do we need to get permission?

4. Lastly, any other places that I failed to mentioned above but are must not-miss

Thanks & Regards

I don't actually remember (even though I got this done a few years ago) - your best bet might be a guidebook such as Lonely Planet, given Ooty is on the backpacker trail. Otherwise, get to Ooty and find out. A local will point you in the right direction.

3 Lastly, if no accomodation, is it safe to camp? Say,by Avalanche or Emerald lake? Is it considered legal by the forest department w/o permission or do we need to get permission? No! Wild animals abound (wild boar the most plentiful) - so do not think about camping unless you know exactly what you're doing.

4. Lastly, any other places that I failed to mentioned above but are must not-miss
