How to get from Kodaikanal to Kochi?

My friends and I will be taking our children to Tamil Nadu & Kerala in Feb 2012. The children range in age from 5 to 9.

We've got a full itinerary in TN (Chennai, Mammalapuram, Salem, Dindigul, Kodaikanal, Madurai) and want to head over to Kochi for a few days of relaxation. We'll be going from Kodaikanal (or Madurai) to Kochi (Cochin) and I'm trying to figure out the best route.

In some ways, I'd like to fly, so that the kids (& parents!) don't have to spend too much time in the car, but I believe it's not possible to fly direct from Madurai to Kochi. When researching flight times, I realized that in order to fly, we'd need to go through Chennai. With a stopover, we'd essentially be flying all day. Not sure that's better than driving, and with our group, it'd surely be cheaper to drive.

However, I wonder about the road conditions between Kodai & Kochi. Google Earth says that the trip would take 5.5 hours, but I suspect that's completely wrong. And I worry about car sickness. It's a mountainous area, after all. Should I expect that the roads are curvy and treacherous?

I'd be grateful for any and all help.

Well, it's not like in the Himalayas, the roads are not treacherous IMO but curvy they are.

I suggest you do Madurai before Kodaikanal then head for Kochi via Munnar by car.
