i guess i can cover most of yercaud in a days time.. so that wont be a ideal choice for 3 days. Nothing is of great interest other than the falls in courtallam.
am looking for a hillstation stay.

How about Munnar though its in Kerala but virtually on the TN border, you have a pretty hill station with dense forests all around.

Do a little more research Arvind. Yercaud can easily take up 2 complete days.

Arvind,

Option 1:-

You May try to club Thenmala (Kerala government's eco tourism site )Refer www.thenmalaecotourism.com) + A visit to Pal aruvi + Ponmudi .

Please browse and see whether you and you friends like this combination.

If interested, you can do:-

Chennai-Tenkasi(train)-Bus to Thenmala(Thenkasi to Trivandrum,Punalur,Kollam buses stop in thenmala)-A Rental Jeep Drive to Pala Aruvi (It's natual and is in midst of Dense plantations/Forests)-Proceed to Ponmudi-Board Train from Trivandrum back to chennai.

These are not-so-touristy-places and need to be adjusted a bit wrt comfort.

Option 2:-

Chennai-Chicmagalur- Baba budagiri hills + Kemmanagundi.

Option 3:-

Chennai-Mangalore-< A Day/night camp in Nature camp within Kudremukha NP>-Chennai --> This will be interesting and unique and is suitable for all male group.

option 4:-

chennai-Chidambaram-Pitchavaram Mangrove forests (try the Full boating where we will be taken deep inside the mangrove forests in the extremely narrow waterways)-stay at Chidambaram-visit Tranquebar Or Poombuhar (nothing much but free , calm, nice, long beach fronts with very less or no people)

Option 5:-

As you might know recently, Kurangani Hills (near Theni) and Meghamalai (Near Theni) are in limelight for the exceptional scenery and off-the-track visits. I did not visited but as a big group this might be an option.

Option 6:-

Chennai-Salem-Namakkal-bus to Kolli Hills- Walk up to the waterfalls --> This is the intersting part and it will be best enjoyed as a group--> Spend 3 to 4 hours taking bath in Pristine water (Crowd will be there only in weekends and it won't be too much)

If any of the option interests you, post here so that I can share the related info.

And apart from these places, there are standard circuits like:-

1.Valparai-Athirapally waterfalls and back to chennai
2.Different interesting places around Pollachi area ( Thirumoorthi dam,Parambikulam sanctuary,Topslip)

Hope this is of some help.

Velu
As usual, excellent details from you Velu. Since you mentioned Kurangani and Meghamalai, do you have any idea about accommodation there? I have been interested in visiting these places for sometime but have not found any staying options except for Theni. There are supposed to be some guest houses coming up in that area, if you know please do post.

Hi..

You may look at Munnar or Thekkady... Nice places and can spend a lot of time with a little on wild life also. In case of Munnar, you might check out Eravikulam and Chinnar. If you opt for Thekkady, Periyar is there. On a second thought, you may also consider Masinagudi.

Regards

Prasanna

We stayed in Ramakkalmedu - 20 kms uphill from cumbum and did a day journey to meghamalai. if you want accommodation in meghamalai try woodbriar group tea estate or clound nine bungalows. you can google it to get the details of teh site. The scenery is great. but the ghat road from chinnamanur(theni-cumbam route) is very basic and only for adventurous lot and the ghat road is not even having the parapet walls and very damaged condition as this road is for private estate only. In the top after meghamalaii you have Hiwavys consisiting of an unspoilt lake and it further goes to some villages. ...

Thanks Vrprakash. I have seen Woodbriar Estate's website a long time back. They are for very high budgets.
