Can anyone provide advice regarding World Series Hockey? Is the series still a going concern? When is the 13-14 or 2014 series scheduled?

BUMP

Okay, so the series has been announced: http://league.hockeyindia.org/news/h...-india-league/

Can anyone provide a best guess about when the schedule will be released? I'd love to see a game when I am there - Mumbai early in the tournament is really going to be my only option I think.

Thanks Adam,

I have emailed them, Facebooked them, and sent them a Tweet.

This post was just on the off chance that someone might be sure the schedule would be released 1 or 2 or 3 weeks before hit-off.

I may well telephone them - that could be my best option.

Thanks again.

Thanks Adam - I noted there is quite a bit of international hockey in India before I get there, and in the lead up to the Hero HIL.

for your hockey fix in the future, DrRudi.

dated January 24, 2014.

Quote:
Star India on Thursday said that it will spend Rs 1,500 crore over the next eight years in developing hockey. The sports broadcaster on Tuesday announced an eight-year broadcast deal with International Hockey Federation (FIH) during which the world sport body will look to host a major event in India each year. Star India, which runs country’s leading sports network Star Sports, will broadcast key FIH events both in India and throughout the world from January 2015 to December 2022. “Star India has acquired global media rights for all territories, excluding Argentina. Through its network of international affiliates and other national broadcasters, content will be distributed to over 200 countries, reaching billions of sports fans taking hockey’s global viewing audience to unprecedented levels,” the company said in a release. In a cricket-crazy nation, where all other sports get overshadowed, the sports broadcaster has chose to spend and promote hockey, which happens to be the country’s national game. The sport has seen a decline over the years. India won the last of its eight Olympic gold medals in the sport back in 1980. Nitin Kukreja, Head of Sports Business, Star India, said: “We are delighted to be FIH’s global production, host broadcast and distribution partner. Hockey is a priority sport for us and we are thrilled that India will host one key event every year during the eight-year term. The sport has a glorious heritage in India and we believe that it has a tremendous future.” “Our vision is to entertain and inspire a global movement of hockey fans and players and Star Sports is an industry leader when it comes to significantly increasing the reach and popularity of sport. Not only will Star Sports promote hockey worldwide between Olympic Games’ cycles, which is incredibly important to sustaining interest in hockey, but it will make our sport much more interactive and entertaining,” FIH president Leandro Negre said.

Here's the "real" hockey in India, if you wanna fight about it! (I'm from North America, and in Leh, so we shall never agree about it)

http://groundreport.com/dorjey-inaug...nament-at-leh/

Leh, January 27, (Scoop News)- 7th C.E.C. Ice-Hockey Tournament, 2014 was today inaugurated by Executive Councillor, Sports, Gurmet Dorjey at Karzoo ice-hockey rink. The tournament is being organised by Youth Services & Sports Department in collaboration with Ladakh Winter Sports Club.

In his address, EC mentioned the work in progress on the construction of international standard ice-hockey rink at Leh and he hoped to hold all the winter events at the new stadium in near future. He appreciated the endeavours of Ladakh Winter Sports Club and Youth Services and Sports Department for their collective job in promoting winter games in Ladakh and for producing many international players from the lot.
...

The first match today was between Skara Sporting Club and Ladakh Scouts Red teams in which Ladakh Scouts Red team won by 5-2 goals.
