Yes suspenders would be a good idea if you are skipping in public and your pants are falling down !

Don't skip on concrete. Use a carpet or mat.

JUMP up just at the rope approaches the ground in your down swing. Repeat as necessary. If you are 'suspended' in anyway you will not be able to jump and thus severely reduce the efficiency of your workout.

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. ~

I think a belt would be much better than suspenders

Krishna query misunderstood. I could not get the idea of this query on a travel site. You google "skipping" and see the results.

It seems everyone thinks of suspenders as braces, to keep your trousers from falling down; and they think the idea hilarious.

But in the dim recesses of my ancient memory of archaisms I vaguely recall hearing of an athletic supporter being called a suspender, which might be sensible for vigorous physical activity.

So, what are you trying to hold up?

Never heard this.

Current wisdom is that supporters don't really help for any kind of exercise.

I remember them being called "jock-straps". Anyway, when I first read the thread title I thought it had to do with "skipping" in the sense of "avoiding".

Our boxing instructor at school made us do skipping exercises. Since then I associate skipping with blood-sports.

. . .whereas on this side of the Atlantic, suspenders are what ladies wear to keep their stockings from falling down (example) so we find the idea of American men wearing suspenders to keep their trousers up hilarious before we even get on to skipping

Golghar the very idea of you doing boxing is hilarious too

mkrishna, I'm sorry I don't have any advice to offer except that you need to explain carefully what you mean by suspenders

Yes. The first reply had me ROTFL.

In India, as far as I know, what krishna means are called 'athletic supporters'. There is also a home made version of them which is called 'langot'.

When I was young, people use to recommend supporters only for weight lifting. But in general, supporters/jockstraps have fallen out of favour now all over the world.

Suspenders, tights or whatever is available to keep your testicles in place and stop any strong movement, is a good idea. Human erect posture causes gravitational stress, and coupled with pressure of intra abdominal body parts, it can be dangerous if proper precautions are not taken during exercise.

So funny or otherwise, if something keeps your testicles in place, use that
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

Suspenders don't - that's the joke. Supporters do.

A suspender is a substitute for a belt. It keeps your testicles in place as much as belt does.

What the OP was talking about was a supporter and not a suspender.

That's why the first reply made the pant falling down comment.
