India's record-breaking batsman Sachin Tendulkar announced on Thursday that he would retire after playing his 200th cricket Test match next month. "It's been a huge honour to have represented my country and played all over the world," Tendulkar, the highest run-scorer in the history of Test cricket, said in a statement.

Thanks Sachin for the many, many, many memorable moments you gave India and Indians. Your demeanour on and off the pitch are unmatched, and your records will probably be never ever broken.

It was a pleasure watching you and your name forever will be attached to India and it's history!

All the best and !

.. only that you have taken a long time to decide about your retirement and you presuppose that the selectors will give you your final two tests in charity though your form does not deserve it; and you would be taking the place of some young person who should be included, just because it will allow you to earn a few crore more rupees. Kindly go fast into the pages of history. Dravid scored better in this respect, not that I am not a fan of yours. I am.

" not that I am not a fan of yours. "??!
Is he keeping you out of the team or did you just get out of the wrong side of the bed this morning?

None of these things (though we have it raining at the moment in my area in Delhi and the electricity went off for some time), but the facts are facts.

@Aupmanyav

I don't want this thread to be a bashing fest about his actions. It is a tribute to the man who has rewritten India's and world cricket history, and earned immense respect, love and admiration from not just Indians but from people all over the world(well....cricket playing world anyway) for his sheer sporting genius and remarkable demeanour.

You can create another thread If you want to bash him but not here!

I hundred percent agree with you. Exactly my thoughts but in very nice words.
He had not been in form from last many years or a decade.
I never imagined sport person of his calibre ( or was he hyped too much) would take so long to decide. Let some youngsters get some chance though it would be hard for any one to fit in his shoes.

But who knows, at least younger generation should be given a chance to try.

Thank God he is Gone for Good of game (and that too without being kicked out or disgraced.)

There is no reason why an out-of-form player dropped from the team should be considered as disgraced or kicked out. Happens all the time and one of the classic example is Mohinder Amarnath. At the moment Sehwag, Gambhir, Yusuf Pathan and Zaheer are not playing. Some might make a comeback (as Yuvraj has done recently), especially Gambhir, Piyush Chawla, Pragyan Ojha, etc.

But when Gavaskar retired, I thought he could have stayed on. I think, he was batting well before that time.

To quote RaGa "nonsense'.
Lord, Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill because they pissed me off.
