First test: Rahul Vijay Pujara Kohli Rahane Rohit/Vihari Pant Ashwin Ishant Shami Bumrah
They have opted for 4 bowlers. Vihari is not much of a spinner. Bowlers hunt in pairs. It should have been Jadeja or Kuldeep.

I would prefer Rohit, he doesn't mind the bouncier pitches and is not affraid to hook and pull.

Five bats and one wicket-Keeper should be enough to make a good score, we are putting up six + one. OK, it is the first test. Let us see how the ball rolls.

It never was in South Africa nor in England. Bowlers are taking the wickets however it is the batsman who are failing.

Why should they? Try others. I mean Rohit, Dhawan, Pandey, Nair, Iyer, Mayank, etc. We have no dearth of batsmen.

Fall of wickets: 1-3 (KL Rahul, 1.6 ov), 2-15 (M Vijay, 6.6 ov), 3-19 (V Kohli, 10.3 ov), 4-41 (AM Rahane, 20.2 ov)
.

Happy that we din't get out in the first session itself, ecstatic that we were able to reach the second! Now if only they can touch 150 I will have to find a ride back from the moon!

183 for 6. Pujara (71), Ashwin holding the fort (or whatever is left of it).

And Pujara is out (runout) for a magnificent 123. India may not feel too bad looking at the score at the end of the day!

It's not surprising at all. Shastri might be complaisant with his "best team" but the matter of the fact is that all Indian team touring Australia have had tough time with bat. Story was little different in 2003 with the fab 5. Problem is with both temperament and skills. Yes, skill is factor in those condition, some have that but then lac the temperament to take it forward. Exceptions like Sehwag is available but we have always depended on one Gavaskar, Tendulkar/Dravid or Kohli in overseas where conditions are different from sub-continent and you can't win 5 day matches unless three/four bats consistently blazes. Agree with bowling attack though.

We will see the bowling attack tomorrow (Ashwin has been given no companion).

I agree the lack of an extra spinner would bite India - but taking Rohit Sharma out of the equation to accommodate the spinner, I think it would have been difficult to even see out the second session. Under the circumstances, he played a good innings, which he should have made better!

From the awful position that India was in, 250 was a decent recovery thanks largely to Pujara, shame about the run out at the end of the day though.

The first 4 Indian wickets left a lot to be desired, there was no need to play at those wide deliveries.

Don't know why Rohit and Shikhar can play only short form games but not tests? They are among the best that we have at the moment.

@ Snotty, IMV, they should have had another spinner (Jadeja) in place of Rahane, but he is the Vice-Captain and not in his best form at the moment. Same true for Rahul and Vijay.

Indian bowlers did fairly well, not allowing a serious lead to Australia (Ashwin 3, Bumrah 2, Ishant 2, Shami was not successful). India beat NZ-A, Shankar made 87, others also did fairly well, bowlers were found wanting. NZ made 308.

Great 1st Test win to India.

I watched the entire telecast on FOX Sports, they continued throughout the test match to focus on Kohli when India was in the field waiting for him to trip up somehow and provide some ammunition to the rest of the Australian Sporting Media, didn't work. They also had a listening segment during play where the stump microphone is accessed to hear the players near the stumps including the wicket keeper Pant, funny though that this was not activated when Aust was fielding, not that I saw anyway.

Why are home town TV commentators around the world so damn biased ?

Is it because they want to keep their commentary roles in the future and don't want to upset the Broadcaster by giving the opposition / visiting team any credit, they only want to give credit when they have no choice to do so ?
They need to be more circumspect and objective during commentary instead of barracking for the team whom they once played for.

The Aussie commentary team on Fox are diabolically biased and just can't help themselves, and I thought the previous broadcaster the Channel 9 cheer squad was bad, they are there to commentate not to barrack for the home team. If they want to barrack they should pay like any other supporter has to pay and sit in the outer or in some corporate box which they would probably get a free invitation anyway. Damn annoying.
Anyway a good win and not 1 aussie cricket supporter friend is talking cricket right now.
