Like owning/leasing a condo.?
thanks edwardseco. leasing will also do.
No: But I do know what the past used to be
Some elderly or religious person in the family donates monies; ∑xn persons, and the ashram, builds a wing or extends a floor. In return, the family can use the room for free when they visit Haridwar. These rooms, are otherwise rented or given out when the patron is not in the city. This is also true in Harminder Sahib in Amritsar.
You do not "own" it - It is a "daan" - And in western conceptual framework it is akin for naming-rights to Concert Halls, Stadiums, Bowl events, Schools and Colleges et. al. down to Benches in parks. You get some benefits, not 100%

nycank‚ same thing as you mentioned. Nowadays many ashrams offers room for a life time and after that they will take over the property. It's not exactly daan but a type of contract/lease. Thanks.
