Hi, i am visiting india for 6 months and plan to learn and practice meditation, yoga and similar spiritual choices as i travel. I have practised basic yoga on and off for the past 2 years but am a beginner still and had practiced meditation for about a year but also stopped for the past year.

I have had friends tell me about ashrams they've stayed at and Vipassana centres but i'm wondering if anyone can tell me anything about such a trip and staying at such places - especially websites for finding places, what the prices are and what to expect at when there.

I arrive in Mumbai end of January 2015 and my rough plan of direction is to take the train to Goa, going south through Karnataka, Kerala, then north towards darjeeling, over to Delhi, Simla and then end the trip by crossing in to nepal.

Any help, advice, recommendations would be very helpful.

Kerala is a good place for Yoga/Meditation Ashrams and here are a few links:

Rishikesh is the other popular place for Yoga Ashrams that you could visit in June towards the end of your India stay.

Darjeeling and Shimla hillstations will be delightful in June and I specially love the Toy Train journey from Kalka to Shimla. The Darjeeling Toy Train track was under repairs but maybe by June the Toy Train from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling will be operational again.

It would make more sense to leave Darjeeling until last if you intend to go to Nepal. KK
