Dear IMers,

Many of you have traveled to sikkim at various times and hence I am trying to tap ur experience. Planning to travel to Sikkim from 22 to 30 Dec, starting from Bagdogara and returning to bagdogara. Essentially planning to visit Gangatok, east and west sikkim (not sure if we can go to north sikkim in Dec).

Kindly tell me where all we can go during this short span taking in to account acclimatisation requirement. Nathula and baba mandir are must visit.

will wait for inputs from the friendly IMers.

Hi Harshad!!

First of all let me assure you that 7 days (Excluding the days of arrival and departure) is not a short span by any means. I am sure that arranging a 7 days clear window for a holiday is something that not many people can afford in today's times

However, let me make a draft plan for you :-

Day 1:- Arrival from IXB to Gangtok.
Day 2:- Gangtok-Tsomgo-Nathula-Gangtok.
Day 3:- Gangtok local site seeing.
Day 4:- Gangtok-Lachen. O/N at Lachen.
Day 5:- Lachen-Gurudongmar-Lachen. O/N at Lachen.
Day 6:- Lachen-Lachung. O/N at Lachung.
Day 7:- Lachung-Yumthang-Katao etc.-Gangtok.
Day 8:- Rest day/spare day at Gangtok.*
Day 9:- Gangtok-IXB.

I've excluded west Sikkim here because during December, north Sikkim is the best place to be.

P.S:- *I've advised so because during December, there are chances that you might get stuck in North Sikkim for a day or two due to heavy snowfall. In such case, it's better to keep a spare day in hand.
I am only responsible for what I say, and not what you understand

That was very fast Style_guru. Thanks a lot for going a step further and giving me an itinerary which seem practical. Also thanks to you and Pkanti for encouraging input on north sikkim visit in dec.

Day 6:- Lachen-Lachung. O/N at Lachung.
just 1/1.5 hrs drive.........make it on Day5

Day 7:- Lachung-Yumthang-Katao etc.-Gangtok.
if possible stay that night at Lachung otherwise it'll be a tough & tiring day...............next day start after breakfast and have break/visit at Phodong; generally N Sikkim goer ignore/miss it

Smile Sikkim in Dec

Hi Friends, I am back. Finally my air bookings are done for visiting sikkim in Dec. We reach on 22 and leave on 29 Dec.

The finalized plan is :-
22 Dec Reach.
23 Dec Gangtok - lachen
24 lachen - Gurudongmar lake - lachung
25 Lachung - Ymathang - Gangtok
26 Spare day
27 Nathula, Baba mandir, tsomgo lake
28 Gangtok Local visit
29 fly to Kolkata

The programme takes in to account (so I think) the acclimatisation and also the visit days of Nathu La. Is it a doable prog in the opinion of follow IMrs? I agree it may not be the best prog but it optimises the visit for me.

I am getting a offer of about Rs 45000 for three day two night north sikkim trip for about eight people all inclusive with pick up from Bagdogara included. To me it sound ok, Am I correct. Also how about Nathiua for 4000 (only vehicle and passes). Any comments.

I think it would be very cold and we are gearing up for it.

Your trip sounds amazing! I gained some nice information from this thread.

I am looking at travelling to Sikkim towards the beginning of December - maybe first week. Could anyone kindly advise what the weather is like in different places in Sikkim at that time?

Gangtok and Rumtek looked very beautiful but I am not so keen on extremely cold weather, but I still would like to visit Sikkim. Are there any less cold regions?

Now gearing up for sikkim (or should I say Kiting up). Expecting very cold climate so have to get ready for that. If it is not so cold, so be it but must gear up. Hvae booked North Sikkim and Nathu La with Tibet Tours and Travels (Prabir Sen ).
Any idea about real temp at Gangtok and gurudongmar? accuweather.com predicts 14 deg (day) and 7 Deg night right now at Gangtok but actual temp as per them on 09 dec has been 5 deg in day and -13 deg in night.

Let us see how it goes but we are excited.

Falling temperatures at Gangtok, 3 deg day and - 16 in the day, Gurudongmar would be even tougher. Bracing up already.
