REVISED ITINERARY

16.5- Start from BBS to NJP in 22611 MAS-NJP Express at 7.35am - NH in train
Query ?
I have read somewhere that this is not a preferred train, if yes why ?

No idea! If you have any questions regarding railways, you can post them in the Indian railways forum in IM.

Reach NJP around 4 am.
Plan A- Refresh & rest in the nearby Hotel / motel. Start for Gangtok around 8 am in reserved vehicle, Breakfast on the way. Reach around 1 pm , afternoon stroll in MG Marg.- NH Gangtok
Plan B- Refresh in the train itself or in Station. Start for Gangtok around 5 am in reserved vehicle, Breakfast on the way. Reach around 10 am , afternoon stroll in MG Marg + Rope way - NH Gangtok
Query ?
1. Rerserved Bolero/ Scropio fare ?
2. Which place to take breakfast. ( prefer south Indian tiffin )
3. Which plan is better.

1. The fare should be around 3-4 K (not sure about the exact current price). There are a lot of places where you can have breakfast - near Sevoke, Teesta Bazar, Melli, Rangpo etc. Lots of street side hotels availabale en route.

Query ?

Current rate for small cars ?.

Enchey monastery. Not sure if the kids will love it, but it's a nice place. You can also try the Institute of Tibetology. No idea about rates of cars.

Leave Gangtok in morning, Visit Temi Tea garden, Namchi ( Chardham + suggest )
Night Halt either at Namchi or Kalimpong
Query ?
1. Will it be more comfortable to Stay at Namchi or Kalimpong or directy move to Darjeeling ( Don't prefer whole day travel due to kids )
2. Between Namchi or Kalimpong which choice will be better.
3. If Bolero etc are booked for 2 days i.e. 20.5 & 21.5, what will be the expected cost ?

The statue of Samdruptse in Namchi. Wheteher it will more comfortable depends on how you define comfort. Kalimpong has more hotels and is a very cluttered place, Namchi on the other hand, is more secluded and pristine. Again no idea about rates.

21.5-
Proceed to Darjeeling in morning, Stroll in Mall area.- NH Darjeeling

22.5 -Early morning Tiger Hill, Batista loop, Ghum. Local sightseeing
Query ?
Sightseeing must include zoo , Happy vally tea estate,( add suggestions )
Bolero etc reserve fare ?

Himalayan montaineering Insatitute, rock gardens. I think they had '3 points', 'five points', 'seven points' tour programs in Darj. However, my last visit was a long time back, and I prefer to avoid the place. On a different note - the current poilitical situation of Darjeeling is a little volatile. Keep a check on proceedings before going.

What about Ravangla ?
Also time required to travel from Ravangla to Darjeeling.

Yes I will do. I am thinking of Pelling as an alternative to Darjeeling.
Any personal experience regarding blockade of NH31A during such bandhs.
Thanks

1. Ravangla is better than Kalimpong in terms of serenity.
2. Not sure about the current road condition. However, Ravangla-Darjeeling should be a 3-4 hours drive, if you don't stop in between.

Now due to volatile political situation in Darjeeling area, I am thinking seriously about Pelling, forgetting Darjeeling. The Gangtok portion is nearly finalised courtesy Mr Bishnu Roul of Himalayan Retreat, Gangtok. I had talked to him several times and found him as a gem of a person. Particularly to visitors from ODISHA, "Don't miss the hospitality and friendly attitude of Roul Babu a man from SORO, ODISHA."
Mr Roul assured me about the safety of NH 31A during such agitations. After discussing with him I am determined to carry on.
He suggested that I should cover Namchi area on a single day while going to Pelling from Gangtok.
Here is a query
Whether it is advisable to do so with kids or Better to have a night halt at Ravangla.

And another thing which portion of the road in west sikkim area is in bad condition due to ongoing hydro electric projects or Landslides ?
suggestions from our GURUes will be highly solicited.

Dear friends
Can I !!! Can I !!! Will any one view it !!! Thease are the questions peeping in my mind, when I thought about writing a delayed tour experience to Sikkim, i.e. on May 2012. The dilemma is still continuing but I am leaning towards the better option. Probably this may be my net session before going to the actual match. "Match" refers to the promise made to senior IMers to write the trip report after my proposed family trip in May, 2013. Just hold on ! I am coming with a brief tour experience in few days. No guarantee regarding quality, but certainly it will be bit different, I propose.

MY FIRST INTERCOURSE WITH HIMALAYAS

Yes ! I mean intercourse............... You people are thinking what a xxxxxx is this person. .........Actually, I think it implies close, closer rather closest approach of my bright red coloured heart having four valves and the whitish, big boobed Mt Kanchenjunga, standing erect, calling me, hugging me, warming me...that is my heart. Yes I need strong intimacy with Kanchenjunga, my dream girl.

Emotions apart, I really fall in love with the Himalayas particularly Kanchenjunga and Sikkim area. May be it is the sheer beauty of Kanchenjunga or may be my little or no exposure to the great Himalayas is the reason behind this............... still to be answered.

Around March last year, We a group of four old but young at heart colleagues and friends are gossiping along with a cup of tea in a late afternoon. We regularly arrange local family tours at least once in a year. Thus obviously the discussion is hovering along that line. Being in teaching profession long vacation is available to us either in Summer or during Durga Puja. Hence we are thinking about summer vacation.

Suddenly ( I don't know why ) I said " Why not have a tour to the Himalayas this time in summer." Silent thought evoked for some time. Then after lots of debate and due to my perseverance, the decision came .... " The great tour will happen this may ". I was excited, my happiness have no leap and bounds.

Elected/selected as team leader, entrusted to plan a low budget tour without family ( only for this time ). Though I had never been to these places, I was still confident as I know, my Knowledge Bank - India mike/Sikkim forum is with me.

Then comes the itinerary part and train ticket booking as my first goal.

The dilemma about that and the trip experience will follow soon..........

NB:- Please bear with me, as for the first time I am writing something creative ( at least I think so ) particularity in English.

Eagerly awaiting constructive words from you IMers.

Thanks
Manoj

Trip to North Sikkim in November/December

Hi,

My wife and I plan to travel to North Sikkim this November/December.We intend to do at least the 3nights/4days tour in North Sikkim and would want decent accommodation and vehicle.

1. If we go through a travel agent, what should be an approximate cost per head for the entire North Sikkim trip? Any suggestion for good travel agents will be a great help.

2. Also, will we have to share the cab? Generally how many people will be there in a cab?

3. Finally, how many days should we set aside for Gangtok to do local sightseeing?

Thanks,

Souvik
