You did have a eventful trip..

Seems like one needs to be rather careful with sikkim trips, NMR had issues and now even your 'package' seems to be having rough edges!
Sar Pass Trek , Rohtang, Munnar, Badrinath Kedarnath, Vaishnodevi, Goa

Day 5

23 May: It was drizzling in the morning at Lachen. We become ready in a relaxed mode as the full day plan was to move from Lachen to Lachung only. All were feeling much better than previous day. We went upstairs for the breakfast and hot aloo parathas were server with butter cubes and pickle. It was fabulous. I tipped the hotel guys. Also the Econest manager came to take Rs 500/-

We finally started for Lachung at 10:20 am. On the way we stopped at a beautiful waterfall and took some photographs. Then we wanted to stop at a place from where we could go to the river bank. But Avon took the car directly in the river bank. He wanted to wash the car. So we got more time to roam around and take photos. The place refreshed my old memories of Raison at the bank of Beas After around one hour Avon was done with his carwash and we started for Lachung. Our next stop was Bhewma Falls. After taking photographs my mother-in-law did some shopping from a side by temporary shop.

We reached Lachung at 2:00 pm. Our driver asked us whether we want to go to the zero point next day and informed that it will take Rs 3000/- extra. Considering everyone’s health response to higher altitude and the surged price we said no to him. We were booked at Hotel PD Lodge. It is a Bengali hotel. The rooms were pretty nice. But the reception was not at all welcoming. The owner Mr. Debajit came outside to take our luggage inside. He asked me if we could also take some of those then it would be faster. They do not have hotel boys. So I started doing so. After this he informed us that we would not get lunch there. We were supposed to start form Lachen after lunch. I had to call Mr. Amit again and had to inform that nobody asked us to do so. After few minutes Mr. Debajit came and said they are going to arrange for our lunch. But it would take some time.

Another surprise were waiting for us. Debajit said we are booked in his hotel for only one day. By the time he was informed that we will actually stay for two nights, it was very late. So he have arranged rooms for us in the hotel next to his hotel for next day. I informed this to Mr. Amit again. He said he is trying to make it to the same hotel. He also asked me that on the day of travelling from Lachung to Gangtok we should take lunch on the way and driver will pay for it. I also requested him that we very much disliked Hotel Hidden Flower in Gangtok and if he can arrange for some other place. He said he will try to make it in Hotel Sagorika at Arithang. Unfortunately Mr. Amit’s failure started from this point. He neither could manage Hotel PD Lodge for the next day nor could arrange some other hotel in Gangtok.

The food quality in the lunch was awful. It was actually not eatable. After lunch my wife, son and I went out to roam around the place and to take some snaps. But rain has started. So we had to come back soon. Debajit started poking us for dinner from 7:15 pm. After 2-3 times he came to the room and said this, I shouted and said it not possible at least before 8:00 pm. If he is not ok with that then we will not take dinner Finally we had dinner at 8:00. The quality of food was similar to the lunch. We were wondering how someone could cook with that bad taste and smell! After dinner we could see a whole lot of people waiting outside for dinner. Considering the crowd, their dining place is tiny and we understood that it was the actual reason for pushing us for dinner from 7:15 pm. Thus we called it a day.

Beautiful photos, but the nexus between travel agents , touts and taxi drivers seems like a lot of headache and scares me. This i have read in repeated posts of different people.
I hope you give some reliable taxi drivers list somewhere in the post.

My taxi driver Avon was very good. Problem was with agent and tout. I will try to add maximum value at the end of my report as it would help others.

Hi Saikat,
Very nice travelogue. Just a little query. Didn't they bar the elderly people from visiting Gurudangmaar lake? I read it somewhere that people above 60 years of age are not allowed at Gurudangmaar.

Day 6

24-May: Rain continued since last night. We have started for Yumthang Valley at 7:30 am. Again breakfast have been done in car with chocolates, popcorn etc. After a while tough roads started. Sometimes there was not actual road. Only bolder were there and water stream was flowing through it. It reminded me of Batal-Gramphoo road. But this time we were not scared as we had been to this kind of road before. Also we were in a 4X4.

We have seen bunch of flowers in the trees side by road. But we decided to stop there at return time. We reached Yumthang valley and it was still raining. We had to use umbrella. I was very low at energy level due to this and kept my camera inside the car. I have decided to take snaps only with mobile phone. We went up to the river side at the downhill. But could not stay there for long time as rain became heavier – very bad luck.

On the return journey rain was stopped. He stopped at multiple places to take snaps of rhododendron. Those were speechlessly beautiful. But I wish if we could get a blue sky at the same time.

We reached hotel by 12 o’clock. Then we had another pathetic lunch. And then proceed to the hotel change. It was the next building. These rooms were also good. This time I have asked one manager type guy to arrange some body for the luggage transfer. He then asked his cook and his helper a teen age lady. I and my wife did not allow the lady to do this job and we self helped. We had to come back to the previous hotel at evening to take another horrible dinner.
