Came back from a very short trip of west Sikkim on 1st November. But due to immense work pressure I could not wrote a single line about my First Visit to Sikkim.

The thought came in my mind just two months back from the journey date when I have noticed that my son have two holidays on 28th October (Friday - day before Diwali) and 1st November (Monday - Bhatridwitiya). The reservation availability was already in crunch. We got confirmed up ticket in Kolkata - Guwahati Garib Rath express and down ticket in Padatik Express first AC.

Time of journey: 27-Oct-2016 to 01-Nov-2016

Places covered: Kaluk - Pelling - Buddha Park (Ravangla) - Temi Tea Garden - Char-dham (Namchi)

Our team: Wife, Son (6 years), Dad (64 years), Mom, Mother-in-law (62 years) and I.

Day 1

27-Oct: After a busy day I left office at 5.30 PM. Reached home at around 7 PM. Our rented SUV was ready. We started at 7.30 PM and reached Kolkata station in 50 minutes. 12517 Guwahati Garibrath was on time. Here I have witnessed side-middle berth first time. To accommodate it height of the side upper berth has been increased. I have heard a lot about it that no one can get into it and many things like that. But honestly I would say except very fat person and senior citizen it is not a problem.

Our driver Subhas called me and informed that he has already reached NJP and will pick up us on next day morning.

Day 2

28-Oct: The train reached New Jalpaiguri station at 8.30 am, 45 minutes late. We met Subhas outside of the station and started the journey in Innova. We had our breakfast with puri sabji at Laddoo Gopal Restaurant (vegetarian), Siliguri and started again. Next halt was Melli Bazar at WB Sikkim border - a tea halt. Then we entered the Sikkim and after some time pathetic roads of south Sikkim started. Some times bolder touched car under body. At around 2 pm we reached Jorethang and had lunch at 16th Mile with fried rice and chilli chicken. After Jorethang the road was comparatively better. Finally we reached Kaluk at around 5 pm.

We pre-booked Ghondey Village resort. Here stuffs welcome us in traditional Sikkimies manner. We took two Kanchanjangha room and one Deluxe room. All rooms have excellent view of Kanchanjangha. Booking this resort was suggested by one of my colleague. We were so amazed that we called him to acknowledge that there hardly be any better option than Ghondey Kanchanjangha room.

Later in the evening my wife and me went out for a stroll. Kaluk is a very small village with few shops out of which 50% is wine shop. After some walk 3 - 4 road dogs started following us. The Himalayan dogs looks more like wolf and not like dog. My better was scared. We stopped at a vegetable shop where the owner explained her that the dog will not bite. They just wants biscuit. We came out of the shop and calmly approached our resort. Thus dogs gave up.

We went to sleep after a sumptuous dinner with fried rice and various chicken items.

Day 3

29-Oct: I was awaken up by my Mother. She told me just to open the curtain in the big wall-full window. Ahhh... I was in front of the series of prestigious Himalayan peaks and world's third highest one was representing the group. What a view...!!!

The breakfast was with delecious aloo patatha, pickle and curd. Then we started for some sight seeing. Our first destination was Changey falls on the way to Pelling. After that we crossed Pelling and headed Kanchanjangha falls followed by Khechiperi lake. Then we came back to Pelling and had lunch.

We tried to go to Pemayangtse Monastery but road was under construction. So we came back to Kaluk at 6.30 PM.

Ghondey resort usually serves momo in evening snacks. But we requested them as we could get that in dinner. They agreed and we had a bit early dinner with fabulous steamed chicken momo.

Day 4

30-Oct: Again Kanchanjangha greeted us - good morning. Everyone liked aloo paratha last day. So we went with the same in breakfast again.

We started at 9 am and headed towards Singshore bridge. After spending some quality time there we started again. We crossed Changey falls and again tried to reach Pemayangtse. This time the road was open. There was a preparation going on for a big puja.

We then headed towards Ravangla. At around 2 pm we reached there and had lunch with rice, sabji, dal and omelette. Then we reached Buddha Park. It is awesome place. We spent more than an hour there, had lots of snap and started for Temi Tea Garden.

We were pre-booked Cherry resort. But we did not liked the place. Rooms are huge but somewhere so telephone or dustbin or geyser not working. In the lounge we have seen photos of CM, Governor of Sikkim, PM and President of India. We did not understand those were there but the place clearly has a typical government touch overall - a mess. We had Chinese food in dinner and food was awesome.

Day 5 & 6

31-Oct: View of Kanchanjangha is good from Temi but it is best from Kaluk. After having breakfast with aloo paratha (again) we walked around the tea garden and took snaps. Then we started for Char-dham. We liked the concept of it very much. After spending around an hour over there we reached Sai Baba Temple. It is a very nice temple. After doing puja there we had nice vegetarian lunch in a small hotel opposite to the temple.

After that we started for NJP. We took some halts for tea. Finally we have reached NJP at 6.30 pm. I gave our driver Rs 200/- as tip. Then we entered the station and started waiting for Padatik Exp. My wife I went out side and entered Subhankar Hotel. We took packed dinner from there - chicken bharta and roti. Those were very good.

01-Nov: The train journey was uneventful and very comfortable as it was first AC. Next day train was late and reached Sealdah at 8.15 am. The same rented car was waiting for us. We started for home and on the way did sweet shop hopping as it was the day of Bhatridwitia. Thus a small but beautiful trip come to the end.
