Hi folks,

I'm in Srinagar at the moment.
Still alive after 3300km on the Bullet

I've finally got a prepayd SIM card here after a lot of efforts and patience.
Now it needs to get activated.
It would be activated yesterday, today in the morning, at 4PM, at 5PM, and latest news within 24 hours .
I know this procedure is so difficult because the govnment set these rules, at last that is what these guys in the Aircel shop are telling me but a slight suspicion found its way into my sick mind

Could it be that they are pulling the time so the hotel owner (250 meters further) keeps his client longer?

It may be that they are simply killing time. I was advised not to go for a new sim as it normally takes around a week for activation

Why dont you call the aircel customer care at 9858012345 or 121 from an aircel number and ask them why your cellphone number has not been activated. You can ask the shopkeeper from where you purchased the SIM to call from his aircel number and you can speak to the customer care person.

It is highly unlikely that the hotel owner and shopkeeper are hand in glove so that you stay more.

After a lot of waiting I left the shop where they were very busy with all exept me. One hour later suddenly it worked.
The joung guy from the shop desk even called me after his business hours to check if it was OK.
I could call home finally

Today I drove to Kargill
Guess what... no coverage here

Seems that BSNL is the SIM provider you need for Kargil regio. In Leh Aircel was working again.
It's all a bit messy. I'm wondering if some of these universal SIM cards would work in Kashmir. Probably not.
It didn't give me a more safer feeling that fellow mobile phoners were documented, registered and controlled. Someone will benefit from it but who

I do not think this is a scam. An annoyance , maybe, due to the delay in activation. Not sure if the thread belongs here. Actually it does I am still waiting for a sim to be activitated
